Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It doesn't matter when you ride. Between the drivers who hate cyclists and the ones who are talking/texting on their phone, good luck on not getting hit. We are all a bunch of reeturds for paying this much for a bike and parts and clothes anyways!!!

Not that I know of.

I was referring to the photo, and not his sketched paths. I was more interested in seeing the actual roads involved, and disregarded his "flight paths". If you disregard his assumptions of the point of the crash you can still see what I'm speaking of, based on the actual info, with the truck going straight as the cyclists were crossing it's path. Possibly, he can edit his post showing the correct tracks and crash location.

BTW- I don't know about out west, but here it's not all that rare to have similar car/car crashes where one is turning left across a divided highway, both in broad daylight and at night.

...this, sadly, is an unfortunate real life problem here where I live in that it has profoundly
affected the way these fatalities are reported in the news and investigated by the police.

the corrosive effect it's had on police accident investigations in car vs bike renders almost
all the statistics you see quoted on these events of questionable validity...yet a lot of the
decisions being made on a remedy use these same statistics. It's very discouraging.

No, but the original report doesn't make sense because as was mentioned earlier if the driver were continuing directly north he would have been stopped by a red light. Reporters often in an attempt to scoup the story get the inital facts wrong, and since investigators are still not talking publicly, we can only surmise. I rode it, and to me the sketch seems to be the most plausible story. We'll have to wait for the rest of it.

Ok four full days of this arguing and handwringing is enough.

Closing!

My sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, may they rest in peace.
