Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shoe recommendations?

So I've decided that I "need" a new pair of shoes in a little bit, so I'm looking for recommendations at what to look at.

Yes, I'm going to visit my LBS, and if they have something that fits right there, I'm going to buy from them. But in the case I can't find something I like there, I want some suggestions as to what to look for and where.

I have very wide feet, at 111mm width, and 261mm length (I did the Bont fit wizard thing, and it returned that I need custom shoes). I currently wear a pair of Shimano R087G shoes in size 44 with cleat wedges and Superfeet green insoles. They are just barely wide enough, with about 1cm of empty space in the toes. Budget is around $225 +/- a reasonable amount.

Thanks!

Sidi genius 5s pop up on chainlove from time to time for about 150, they'll obviously be more at a retail establishment. You may actually need the mega version. I had your exact shoe, same size and everything, although I was able to get into a set of Sidis in size 44 (they fit more snugly)!

A specialized store might be a good place to check too - nice shoes and then have some options for custom fitting them.

For the life of me, I can't remember the brand, but there's a shoe that has a heat molded inner that the store will fit to your feet when you purchase them

I have never been much of a Shimano shoe fan, but I have ridden the SH-R170 shoe for a while. This is the best non-formed shoe Shimano makes, Nothing but impressed with the sole stiffness and the comfort.

Shoe should be around $190 ish. My only criticism is there is a lot of venting/mesh and int hesummer that is great. In the fall/spring you might want a time trial weight bootie to block air some.

Agree with Lake, but maybe not in wide. I had a pair of Shimano R087s, and a few pair of mega Sidis. My Lake pairs aren't wide, and they fit fine.

Splurge a bit and get the CX331s. And if you can find an older CX236, those are great too.

Here's a steal: LAKE CX311c CARBON TRIATHLON SHOES

If you are interested in Lake, check out their sizing chart. I found it to be spot on for both length and width. I tried wide sizes in Lake, Sidi, Shimano and Giro. I found the Lake to be the widest. At 261 mm long and 111 mm wide, you have seriously wide feet.

The standard shoes run a bit narrow in the mid...but I bought a pair of Sidi Wires last fall and they are amazing shoes. Extremely comfortable and super stiff/light...I can't recommend them enough if they'll fit your foot...

The shop I'm going to go to has Sidi, Giro, Bont, LG, Mavic, Lake, and Pearl Izumi apparently.

I'm leaning towards the Bont shoes right now, and I hope that that's a good fit, because they look cool, and seems like they aren't very narrow shoes.

Thanks for the input, I'll return with results after I get to the shop, and try some stuff on after the school year ends.
