It's been my experience that people buying at the price level know what they are doing. They don't come to Bikeforums for advice. They know better.

The hate thing is very alive and well on the 41. But in society if you don't live in the ghetto, many appreciate the brand...lol..
Believe its a demographic thing because anybody who works in corporate America understands the two way street of litigation.
Just like bike racing is survival of the fittest.
The bikes are fantastic...but mike, in my experience, Specialized bikes or framesets aren't easy to get...because they sell out so early in the model year being a victim of their success and demand...just tried to order a new S-works frameset and no more for '14 in my size.

Cannondale is getting that way, selling out of stuff in the spring. It's nuts.

Specialized so far. Why? Because I wanted a Specialized bike back in the day, borrowed an '09 Roubaix when I got back into cycling and went with a '12 Tarmac when I went to buy my own.
I have 4 major stores where I live:
1. Specialized/Felt
2. Specialized/Cannondale/Giant
3. Trek/Cervelo/Giant
4. Specialized/Felt
1 is reasonably prices, 2 is bat-crap crazy with their pricing, often being close to double MSRP and will rarely budge on pricing (or else I would have looked at Cannondale), 3 is overpriced (not as bad as 2 though...but over MSRP or else I would have looked into Cervelo) and 4 is like dealing with a used car lot.
...and a 5th store Specialized/felt...which is as reasonable as 1 but over an hour away. So...store 1 it was and Specialized/Felt.
Limited selection with support means I went with Specialized. I find their bikes to be a bit overpriced vs others but nothing crazy and they do ride amazingly. The quality of a Tarmac/Roubaix cannot be denied. Don't liek the brand? Thing their stuff is a bit overpriced? Sure, I can see that but to say those two bikes aren't top notch kits is either silliness or prejudice.
I've never taken to the road on a Cervelo or Cannondale...but I'd like to. Hell...I drool over BMC bikes for that matter too...

For Aluminum: Cannondale (especially the 2.8 series which is so gloriously stiff), and the Black Inc is one beautiful piece.
For Steel: Any of the late 80's early 90's Japanese produced of either Centurion, Bridgestone, or Specialized. I assume Miyata, Shogun, Umivega, Fuji, etc are of similar quality but I've never ridden one. (Full disclosure: I have an RB-1)
Honorable mention: Scott is some damn fine stuff. And I always appreciated what Cervelo was doing-- making very high performance more affordable

I was thinking about buying a Super Mirage from a site I won't mention so as not to get accused of being a schill. It's less than $400 and just as importantly, it looks great. Also has good components.
I would love to buy a Sam Hillborne or A. Homer Hilsen, but can't spend the cash right now.
Also love vintage Schwinn road bikes.
As to the why, I don't know. That stuff just does it for me.

In reality I like stuff with lugged steel frames, currently ride a modern Taiwanese Masi GC. Currently watching CL and E-Bay for an older Lemond frame as a build project.
I am not a huge sports fan, and there are very few pros that I am a fan of. Greg Lemond is one of them. I am riding my third Masi (still own two of them, the GC and a fixie) because that's what my favorite LBS sells.

As the title says, I am curious what bike brands did you like and why you pick them. Some of mine are : Raleigh, Cannondale, Scott, Tern. I picked raleigh for the best deals, and Cannondale for the advanced aluminum design to try out.etc. Be as Specific As you like.

Gios for it's ride and history! Cinelli SC for looks and feel. Colnago C50 for overall appearance and ride. Merlin Spectrum feels like steel light as CF. All are equipped with Campagnolo!

Cervelo because its an engineering company that happens to make framesets. Its web site shows that it is very transparent in its approach to their development and approach. Their "ask the engineers" section explains their process and even the charts shows comparisons with other major brands when it comes to geometry.
It's "Project California" is near where I live, Orange County, and the aerospace engineers have a lot of valuable input. Its no small wonder that much of their development is copied by other manufacturers.
This is a respectable company. It helps further the development of bike racing and therefore trickles down to what most of the riders ride today.

I love my new Trek Domane 5.2 and I love my 1984 Pinarello Treviso but for different reasons, of course. I also love my Bianchi San Jose SS/FG. I need to get back into the bike shed and get some of other projects completed, then I'd have some more favorite bike brands.
The local Trek dealer is nice, I get discounts without asking, repairs are done well and quickly, and my Domane 5.2 kicks ass!
Gratuitous eye candy

I had a thing for LeMond because I owned one and loved it. Now I own a Cannondale and love my bike, but, I really have no favourite brand.
