Giant VS. Specialized

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant VS. Specialized

I am researching my next purchase.

The two bikes below are my considerations.

Please vote for one... Thanks.

Escape RX Composite (2014) | Giant Bicycles | United States

VS

Specialized Bicycle Components

The Giant is a Carbon Bike for just a little more Money... I am willing to pay just a little more for it...

But my gut tells me go with Specialized...

You can't go wrong with either but I would advise you to test out each bike and buy the one that fits/feels the best to you.

If possible ride both and then decide. When looking at high quality hybrids there aren't many to choose from. I purchased a couple of Giant Escape RX Composites earlier this year and couldn't be happier with my choice. Currently have a little over 2k miles on them and they are perfect for our (my wife and I) lifestyle here in FL. Usually ride 30 to 40 miles/day. There are a couple of threads covering the RX Composite on the boards. Here's mine if you haven't seen it. https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bic...e-owner-s.html Good luck with your decision but you really can't go wrong with either bike.

One thing I really love about the Giant RX is the rack mounts and it has fender eyes as well. Not many carbon fibre frames with either one let alone both. Here is a thread covering the rack mounts I did a while ago. https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bicycles/941533-you-looking-carbon-fibre-
framed-hybrid-rack-mounts.html

That said the REAL winner here may be the new Diamondback Interval Carbon Flat Bar Road Bike at Performance. Less $$ than the Giant but almost the same bike including the rack mounts: Here is a write up Diamondback Interval Carbon Flat Bar Road Bike | The Performance Bicycle Blog Listed at $1229 on sale here: Diamondback Interval Carbon Flat Bar Bike - 2014 Performance Exclusive -

They both make fine bikes. Pick the one that fits you better and/or is sold by an LBS that offers superior service.

+1

I was looking at Trek and Specialized when I bought. Though I liked the Trek Cross Rip a bit better, I got the Specialized Secteur because it had a 105 drivetrain (vs Tiagra on the Cross Rip) and I liked the LBS that sells specialized better.

Though Specialized is my least favorite of all companies, I still say that a test ride should be your only deciding factor.

I hope that you enjoy riding the Giant Escape more!

What are all your thoughts on Diamondback? I know very little, they seem to be a Walmart Brand... Im I correct? Why are you down on Specialized? Thanks...

Some people are down on Specialized because of their legal team suing any company that has any name somewhat similar to a product name that Specialized also has.

But their design team puts together a fine product.

Like many have said...they are both great brands. A few years back...I would have voted Giant more for the value portion but they've seemed to close the gap between them and Specialized.

I personally went with Specialized...I love my Tarmac.
