Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought about that, but I will eventually just replace the stem altogether. Need something a longer one. Thanks.

But in the meantime, it would be hotter without ;-)
Its odd how much the graphics on that stem stick out to me.

Thanks! Just out of curiousity, what about the stem - color? length? angle?

With a pretty much horizontal top tube...the -6 stem looks like its pointing up. Looks-wise a -17 would look much better...as it would be level with the top tube. Stem on the below Evo is a -17...but looks to be 30-40mm lower than your bars now. Not too many people can handle a drop like that though.

This belongs to user incredibleting on Weight Weenies.

That's fair enough - I can handle the drop fine (would like to get lower anyway), but it seems self-defeating to get a -17 stem when I still have a close to 30mm in the form of a conical spacer. I have to reduce that first.

Just to interject, I have personally never cared for the look of a -17 degree. I think a lower -6 degree with less spacers is more appealing. For me, the stem is distracting only because of the graphics. It would look much more clean if it were all black. Dont know if it is because I know it is a stock stem or what, but my eye is instantly drawn to it.

This thread is all about what looks cool and not what's really functional. If you are comfortable riding what you got now...then stick with it.

I recently went from a -17 to a -10. I don't really ride like I used to and wanted something a bit more "comfortable".

+2. A -10 is a good option as well!

Thinking about losing the wheel stickers to keep with the dark look.

Yeah, the FSA chainring look out of place on that bike. Otherwise very nice.

Please don't get me wrong, I posted the photo knowing full well that this thread is about looks and not functionality. I do believe that the two can meet though. On a purely aesthetic level, I don't like -17 on most bikes, but it does work in a few cases. If ENVE made a -10 stem, I would get it today , but when you start shopping around for stems it's hard to find one that meets all of my criteria. It's a work in progress still, I'm switching to Veloflex tires next week and those come with gumwalls, so we'll see what that will look like also.

Absolutely agree, my LBS is holding a set of take-off SISL2 spiderings for me, but it's hard to find just a SISL2 cranks for sale that don't include the rings already. I may just go with Praxis, and that will happen soon. EVO is a great bike - even though it's not Hi-Mod, it's still respectably light, handles great, and to be honest, is more comfortable than the old Synapse (at least for me). Current weight is 15.2 lbs, which is plenty light for me.

Good to know, my 07 63cm System Six is sitting at 15.6lbs, but it can be harsh, but the geometry fits me well.

What about an extralite since they have an 8 deg? Super light and looks great also

Yes, I've looked at those before, but don't like them. The handlebar is Enve, so I think I'm going with the Enve stem to keep the cockpit uniform. Just going to get a longer stem, and what I really want to do do is reduce that 30mm conical spacer, but I'm having a hard friggin' time finding the right parts. I know it's basically an FSA spacer and I would like to get that down to 10 or 15 mm.

Lots of nice looking rides here always nice to see what others have done.
This thread reminds me of the old saying.

I like keeping it all uniform also, but I don't like the shape of the enve stems.

My custom steel Steve Rex in front of the steepest grade in San Francisco. 38% Broderick sidewalk.
Geometry designed so I can ride in the drops comfortably at mile 190 of a double century. Colors picked on a theme of Molteni meets inverted Gulf Racing.

For a custom bike it doesn't seem to be fit that well. Shortish stem and a pretty high spacer stack. I would have wanted a geometry with a shorter top tube and slightly longer head tube for your fit and needs
