Giro Air Attack
I crashed hard today and cracked my giro atmos helmet. I was thinking bout getting the air attack as my daily helmet, I will be riding all summer long in the heat, IM not sure if i will be cool enough with the attack. Also i plan to do some tris soon and i dont want to buy 2 helmets. Is the attack that much more aero then a regular helmet i no its not as near as aero as a Selector but is it still worth getting? Any help would be awesome

Fyi, Giro does offer a discount (20%?) on the purchase of a new helmet if you're current one is damaged in a crash. Unfortunately, you must order through their website.

I have a Giro air attack shield. It is a bit hotter than my road helmet. However, it is subjective on how much heat you can tolerate and what kind of climate you live in. One thing I noticed about the shield version is that it actually ventilates my face a lot better than when I am wearing sunglasses. The shield sits away from my face and lets air circulate.
Regarding aero-ness. I use my air attack on the track, and when I am spinning with my head down at 38mph, I can hear the wind rushing over the helmet. It is a super cool sound.
I think it is pretty much established that aero road helmets make a difference. how much, and how much it means to you is a different story.
I think bell is about to release an aero helmet with close-able vents:

Yes, it does look better in the dark colors, but the black does absorb the heat

I use mine all summer and except for the slowest speeds find the ventilation to be good. I remove the front sweat pad which lets more air in under the front edge. Also think it will depend to some extent on the shape of your head.
The Air Attack is design to constrain airflow close to the scalp and through the hair (assuming you have some) where it does the most good. Air flowing through helmet 1/2" away from your scalp doesn't contribute to cooling.

I don't know about its slipperiness relative to Air Attack, but the Casco Speedairo is a much attractive design to me, i.e. among aero road helmets with integrated visors.
SPEEDairo - CASCOs superlative in terms of aerodynamics and cooling
I use a Dux Helm myself, and really like the retractable visor feature, but I doubt the Dux Helm satisfies those looking for aero features. It's a very good road helmet for all but the hottest days.

its just so damn expensive!
i've got an air attack and for me it's a great helmet. Try them on in person, though, and make sure it fits your head first. For road bike TTs, I use the air attack with shield, will use the air attack without shield for races on days that aren't super hot, and use the LG course for the days that are super hot. The best aero helmet right now if you're not adverse to buying specialized things is probably the Evade. Within the next year, the options will be really be opening up from others such as Bell, Kask, etc. the POC helmet actually fit my head pretty well too, but it's also pretty expensive, and I didn't need/want another helmet.

All Helmets And Kit, Put On Your Kit And Go Look In The Mirror, Bam! Instant Doofus
All helmets look like official doofus issue wear, to be honest. Rockin' your spaceship or that egg crate on your head, thinking you're cute and better than some poor slob with an Air Attack is funny.
Lazer and Bell have or will have aero helmets much like Giro's Air Attack.
Some Team Lotto riders have some crazy chrome looking cover on their helmets, check out Greipel's lid too:

Bell's version looks just Like the Attack, but with two small holes in the front and four more in the back, check Team Belkin in green sporting the new Bell aero helmet (check out the Giant rider's white helmets in this pic too):
With the right color and graphics I see the aero helmets no worse than the egg crates and swoopy spaceships.
If anybody is worried about image, just get out of cycling, it's chock full of weirdness.
Want to see a three hundred dollar egg crate?

Like the areo helmets and the egg crate Catrike too, that'll channel air to your growing bald spot. But I don't fool myself into believing that anybody else will think that either look good, other than to another cycling doofus, of course.

Glad to hear you're o.k. after your crash!!
I ride a Bell Sweep and it is extremely comfortable. Same safety rating as most other helmets.
They are on sale now at WBW, with no shipping or tax:
Bell Sweep Helmet at WesternBikeworks
I paid $120 for mine many years ago. This is a great deal on a decent looking helmet.
I'm not digging the 70's-look of some newer helmets.

lolz
I have the Air Attack with Shield in BLUE!!! dbl lolz
I like the form factor of the helmet and shield. However, I just don't like the plain one for some reason. It just doesn't look.......fast. haha
I have used mine twice since I got it. One thing I noticed though is that the wind comes inside shield and makes my eyes a little watery. Ohhh well..SH!

Rationalize all you want but I've seen the Air Attack out in the wild and, in a land of stupid looking helmets, they stand out as looking particularly stupid IMO.

Get Over Yourself
Dunbar, dude, we get that you don't like it, what you fail to realise is that nobody cares what you think.
And yes, no matter what you put on your head, you look like a doofus. Funny thing is that you haven't figured that out yourself yet, it's in the mirror, go look again.
See, some here want to talk about bike gear, so getting back to the thread and away from your "I hate your hat, does Rapha make my butt look fat?" rant, looking at the pics I posted, I wonder how the new Lazer and Bell aero helmets feel on a hot day compared to the Air Attack. Greipel's Lazer aero helmet looks good in black, haven't seen a good side view of it though.
The Specialized Evade, looking at it on your head in a side view, seems to sit on your head lower, less mushroomy.
It's kinda Star Trek Voyager'ish, but it's growing on me.
Ah, but the Air Attack has the shield, as does the Casco (nice, wish I could try one) and the Dux Helm, an added feature.
Seriously, the only real benefit of those three for me will be the ability to wear perscription glasses under their shields.
Don't care about the aero "advantage", if real, at all.
