Heading to Destin, FL for the week... Are there any group rides within ~ 50 miles?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Visit these guys: Robin's Bikes - Your Florida Bicycle Headquarters -Destin, Florida. They're about an hour from where I live & I've visited their store . . . nice folk. They'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Robin's Bikes has road rides and mountain bike rides everyday of the week. If I recall correctly the road rides are MWF from the shop and the MTB rides are TT from a park a little down the road. The road rides are very structured with the ride leader (Robin) in complete control, full stops at all stop signs, you won't be allowed to pull if you're new, etc. I suppose they have to be this way with tons of new folk always dropping in to ride with them just to keep things safe. That being said, they are super nice. I flatted on the MTB ride, and even though I told him to go on ahead and leave, Robin stayed with me until he was sure I was good to go and we continued the ride.
