Need recommendation for a replacement BB30 bearings

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need recommendation for a replacement BB30 bearings

I need to replace the stocked BB30 bearings on my 2012 MASI Evoluzione. It has less than 900 miles but both bearings are shot. The drive side is practically frozen. I believe the stocked bearings are made by FSA. Any recommendation for a replacement bearings? My LBS carries SRAM and Wheels Manufacturing bearings. I'm open to using other brands that are reasonably priced. I'm hesitant to try another FSA unless someone can convince me that FSA has improved their bearings since 2012. Thanks.

although cartridge bearings for use on bicycles are available for purchase at your LBS and many hardware stores, the manufacturer's of those bearings are not very plentiful, i think. maybe a handful or two of large and largely unknown manufacturers actually make them (i.e. Timkin, GRW, Tanchin, AST, Enduro).

i'm sure others know a lot more about ball-bearings and cartridge bearings, such as those used in bicycles than me. maybe they can correct what i have written and add some more insight.

Here is a suggestion, go to a local bearing wholesaler in your town and ask for two 61806-2rs or equivalent bearings. Abec 3 is fine, abec 5 is more money. You shouldn't spend more than about $6.
You are welcome.

I thought it was 6806-2rs - but may be different your side of the Equator!

In any event, bearing shop bearings are perfectly fine and cost around $5-6 each. I don't want to know how much 'bike specific' BB30 bearings cost???

cheers

Or go here and have a pair delivered to you for less than $6.00.

edit: Shipping may be extra, didn't notice you were so far away!

Thanks guys. This is very helpful. My next question is, Are there significant difference in quality between US made and Chinese made 6806-2rs bearings? I believe the ones that JSB Great Bearings is selling for $3.99 each are Chinese made (HCH Bearings). Appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

Yes.

As an examples, we have seen a bunch of Novatec hubs being dumped on eBay since early this year. Some are grey market from Chinese OE and same are fake!

The grey market hubs have the cheaper Chinese bearings. We have been contacted by more than one person who has bought these hubs asking why their bearings failed 2 or 3 months after they bought the hubs.

If you want your bearings to last a whilr the cost of really good bearings is not that much if you are buying them from a bearing vendor and not as a speciality item.

See if you can't find Japanese EZO, German F.A.G., SKF, TPI or Enduro bearings. Those are all very good brands.

Also, look at the ABEC rating. ABEC 3 is pretty good with ABEC 5 being the bees knees for bicycle use.

Thanks again. I'm leaning toward Enduro and maybe give the HCH brand a try. Enduro bearings cost about 3 to 4 times.

So far as press tool is concern, any recommendation? I found this:

FSA BB30 Consumer Grade Bearing Installation Tool | eBay

or this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/250877546968...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Has anyone use any of these tools? Thanks.

Those tools would be fine; it isn't brain surgery. But that is not all you need. The parts you have already found are simply the specific dies that fit the bearing snugly to push them into the BB shell straight and true. You also need a press device like a fat threaded rod with two sets of nuts and washers. These are also on ebay. Look for a whole kit with both types of parts. Or you can likely get what you need at a home improvement store.
