Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, for example, C2 and SL23 rims are considerably wider than Mavics and the spokes are widely available. Very few 'factory wheels' are crossed in front.

Sorry again for the ignorance but is that good that the tires are wider and the wheels are crossed in front?

wider rims are de rigueur these days. They allow for the tire to fit wider, which reportedly increases comfort. Do a search, you'll find lots of threads on the topic. Fat is Fast | Bicycling Magazine

Factory wheels will generally have fewer spokes, as they are made by large machines that allow for that. The spokes will, however, generally be proprietary and a pita to replace if you break one. You break a CX-Ray otoh, and just about any shop will be able to fix it in a few minutes for short money (I paid $15 to replace the only one I've broken).

Another benefit to buying wheels with a quality set of hubs like the White Industries is that you can keep them when you wear out the rims, and just build them back up.

Plus, you'll look cooler than all the other guys riding boring Mavics.

unionmade gives some good information; wider is the new black. At the risk of being rude, I'm going to pass on addressing your question head on. You can put your trust in Psimet, ask him these questions, and/or do more research on your own. You don't need to apologize for ignorance, but I'm going to step back a bit rather than educate you (I'm no expert anyway). Best wishes.

I think it"s hard to beat Boyd Altamonts for the money. They check all the boxes for how wheels are trending these days. Aero 30mm rims, fairly light, wide. Maybe their hubs aren't on par with WI (?). Really no idea about that one, but IMO, some really good wheels for a fair price.

Yeah, the premium hubs would be the main difference you're paying for over the Altamonts.

My wife has been riding psimet Kinlins with WI hubs (H3s?) since 2009. They've been awesome. When the rims are dead, she'll go to carbon and use the hubs. I have a friend that feels the same way about his T11s.

I used Alchemy ELF/ORCs in the past with Rob's wheels, but I'm not sure if they've resurfaced since the move. I noticed they're recalling the ORC-UL. When King made the R45 for Campy, it was easy to switch my allegiance to CK. Same deal with them. The hubs will last forever.

So I am ready to pull the trigger with PSIMET. Looking for some help with color options.
Which hub would you pick with black spokes, silver nipples and the HED Belgium C2 rim?
My current bike colour: https://img834.imageshack.us/img834/9070/img0070mha.jpg except saddle and bar tape is black.

Black is the safest bet. The silver wouldn't quite match anything (6700 stuff is grey not silver). With your bike, I'd be very tempted by these (the two red spokes could be changed out if they're too much). Might be a hair under-built for your size, but wow:

Hello all, I just wanted to update the thread.
I ended up going with PSIMET custom wheels:
Front=White Ind. T11 F black hub laced to a HED Belgium C2 rim 24f/2X using CXRay-Black spokes and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples
Rear=White Ind. T11 R black hub with Shimano freehub body laced to a HED Belgium C2 rim 28r/2X using CXRay-Black spokes on the Drive Side and laced 2X using CXRay-Black spokes on the Non-Drive Side and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

I was tempted to go with Pacenti but Robert encouraged me to go with the HED rims.

I also looked very hard at the Boyd Altamont and the Soul 3.0 but for the price difference I felt that the quality was better with PSIMET and the money was worth spending. I really hope I am right.

Thank you to everybody that chimed in

Anybody know if I will have any trouble getting the wider rim to fit into my frame and brake pads?

Neither are issues. Your frame might limit tire size options...but the rims will be fine. Brake pads will likely need to be set just a touch wider, yes, but that's easy-peezy (just turn the barrel).

what frame do you have?

I have a Ridley Noah (2011) and my HED C2s are tight, but fit with no rub (thanks to a new skewer and narrower tires). However, Zipp Firecrest and similarly wider wheels will not clear the seat and chain stays. Brake pads are a different issue and you may have to adjust them, but they should fit.

I have an Argon 18 krypton 2011.
How can I be sure they will fit?

A buddy of mine with an Argon TT bike has a lot more tolerance than my Noah; i think you'll be fine. How much clearance do you have for your current wheels/tires? How wide are those wheels/tires. When in doubt post some pictures of the clearances.

I have a 2012 Krypton with 23mm GP4000S tires on a HED Belgium rear and Velocity A23 front right now with no issues. Brakes are Sram Rival. I have not tried, but looks like I could put 25mm on there, too.
