Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good Brake Pads?

What do you use? I'm looking for some for my DA7700 brakes, any you can suggest?

Thanks!

I have SwissStops on my bikes (aluminum rims) and like the way they perform.

You can buy salmon colored Kool Stops or a salmon color/black compound mix. The black compound is on the forward edge of the brake so that modulation is enhanced, but when more pressure is applied, the salmon color does it's thing. I have these on the Giant OCR-C, but I just changed the pads on the Tarmac from the stock original stuff that sort of stopped the bike after a while and replaced those with Kool Stops. Now the Tarmac has brakes.

Thanks for the inputs

I think i'm gonna go with the salmon kool stops, as I can just order them with the other stuff I need (bought a used bike and now i'm just changing chain, brake-pads etc.) Might actually do a post some pics in a thread sometime right now it just doesn't look good yet
rocco: So the two compound thing.. do these have a different name? can't find them anywhere (on wiggle, in my case). I think I got some sort of a compound mix on right now, just no idea what these are and they dont break very nicely..

I bought mine from an LBS. I tried to go on line and the joker listed the dual compound but shipped the solid, salmon colored pads. No problem, I put them on the rear of the Tarmac. I like the dual compound for it's better modulation. I think you'll have to find an LBS that will take the time to look it up in their catalogue. If you can't find them, call All Star Bikes in Cary, NC. They'll get them and ship them to you.

Yep, so UK or somewhere in europe would be good. I'll check wiggle tomorrow and then my local shops. Now it's bed time, 3am is a tad too late anyways.
If you have any more tips I appreciate it. The pads don't have to hold up for an eternity, I do enjoy better braking especially as I live in the city and do more braking then actuall pedalling.

I agree with the others on the Kool stop. Used them a few times in addition to the standard Shimano pads on my older Ultrgra 9sp brakes. Liked them a lot. Just recently bought the Swissstop for older Campy 10spd brakes and they are working well so far. Got a decent deal for them on probikekit.com in the UK. But you might find a better place closer to home?

black/salmon kool stop pads for shimano brakes

i've tried the black kool stops, the salmon kool stops, the black/salmon kool stops (which i'm using now) and the black swiss stops. out of all those, i liked the salmon kool stops the best, cause they're easy to clean and maintain and stop really good in both wet and dry. i hated the swiss stops the most, cause i used to always see metal filings in the pads when i would take the wheels off to clean them, and that started leaving marks on the wheels, which never happened with any of the kool stops. i never tried the purple swiss stops..

Well, you can see kangaroos here. We just keep them locked deep in the alps so that no one ever thinks we could be australians.

I think we mostly hit tourist spots (in Vienna and Salzburg), and that was kind of the popular T-shirt graphic. Something like: "Welcome to Austria! What's that? No, no kangaroos here." I really enjoyed soaking in Pieter Bruegel's work.

I think you might need the pads and holders with Sora and Tiagra...rather than just the inserts:

The pads and holders seem to be the only option listed on KoolStop's web site.

Yes - inserts are all you really need for those calipers. Holders are fine to reuse (or replace...either way).
