Rim width question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rim width question

I've got a chance to get some (non C2) HED Bastogne wheels in like new condition (<200 miles). I'm replacing a Fulcrum Racing 5 rear wheel that lost a spoke eyelet after 27,000 + miles.

I'm 5'8,160 and like to spin on decent surfaced roads on my '09 Lynskey R330. I average 5,700 miles a year, am pretty good about maintenance and I'm not hard on wheels at all.

I also like to run 25mm tires. Will these 19mm wide rims give me issues with the wider tires? Will the tires be harder to mount? Will I be able to run tire pressures in the 90 PSI range that I could on the Fulcrum wheels?

Thanks,

Dave

As far as width of tire vs. width of rim, the green and red chart and text under "Width Considerations" on this page is helpful: Tire Sizing Systems. Note that the chart uses internal rim width.

Reduced optimum tire pressure comes corresponds to increased air volume whether that is due to a larger tire or a larger rim or both. 25 mm tires are normal for 19 mm rims.

23mm tires on the HED C2 rims will measure 25mm wide and perform similar to 25mm tires on 19mm wide rims when run at similar pressure. 25mm wide tires will measure a bit over 27mm on the C2 rims.

His will be the older, Non C2 rims. "I've got a chance to get some (non C2) HED Bastogne wheels in like new condition (<200 miles)."

OP, you'll be just fine running 25mm tires on those rims.

Thanks for the replies.

$250 for what appears to be pristine wheels - I think I'm going to get them.

Have you ever built? The BDop kits fall in that price range, and would get you the wider rim if you were so desirous.

I'm using 30mm tires on 19mm rims on one bike, and 35mm tires on 19mm rims on another bike. They work just fine.
