Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recommendations for sub-$100 drop bar

I'm looking to upgrade from my stock handlebars. I'm thinking something with shallower drops. What should I be looking at for <$100? Also, I measure approx 19-19 1/2 inches from the outside of my shoulders; what's the ideal width bar I should be looking at? Finally, is this a relatively simple DIY upgrade or is there any reason I should have my LBS do this?

Thanks in advance!

I use this one:

31.8*400 420 440mm 3T matt Ergonova Team carbon fiber road bike bend handle TS

It's fake but it survived a crash that broke my "real" carbon bike and put me in the hospital. Based on your 49cm shoulder width, a 49-50 cm center to center bar would work best but I do not know if they exist.

3T Ergonova is $76 at Artscyclery (w/ save15 coupon). The Ergosum is $65 at Backcountry. Ergonova is shorter and shallower.

We need more info regarding what bars you are using now (Drop and Reach). Try this video:

I was going to suggest a good deal at Price point:
Easton EC70 Aero | Drop Bar | 2013 | Carbon | Ergonomic

I love my Ritchey bars and I think I picked them up for around $35, you could go a tier or two up and be within your price range. They're very light for the price point, as light as those $80 bars with the same ergonomics. Maybe be patient on Ebay and pick up some ec90s used, I almost got some for well under $100 that way.

Thanks, guys. The 3T Ergonova looks exactly like what I'm after. I'll have to double check on the sizing; I'm somewhat surprised I would need something so wide. I'm thinking I have a 40cm now and it seems okay, but I'll have to re-check the measurements.

I use the Ergonova and like it. Know that they run narrow though, as the ends flare a bit, and they measure at the ends.
