yes, there is a cure. but, it's so expensive, you'll come out cheaper just buying the new bike.

My Wilier started out with a mix of Chorus and Athena. It's almost all Super Record now. 
In my defense, everything taken off got used on a Kona Jake the Snake frame set I bought from Bikeman.com. But now I feel the need to replace any Athena parts on the JTS with Chorus. 
So, no, for me there is no cure.
