Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I can't remember - they are somewhat generic ones from China. I think it's a good idea to be gentle with them and check them before every ride. The plastic clamp on one of a prior pair of mine broke and although I'm using another pair, I'm somewhat leery of them.

Definitely one of the nicest colors I've seen. My white SL frame just got here today. Going to build it up later and post pics Rode a few miles with some older guy on my ride yesterday, the dude was on a P1 SLR with a very cool pure white paint job, decals outlined in black. Maybe a little too white but it was rad. Come up behind him on a climb and yell "is that an Emonda!" "yep! I love it!", catch him at the light and chat. Said he has TWO Emonda SLR's. Didn't have time to get the reason why... Although, I live in a very rich area of SoCal so I'm sure he just clicked the button twice online for funsies. Said he's got the Domane SLR on order too. I can only dream!

nice! I get my white Emonda SL5 this week too and I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. I should get an early night hehe. Waiting for my LBS to call me. I'm in love with the color and I've always wanted a white bike. They just look so damn clean. Would look even better with black rims since the rest of the bike is black but that would not be a good reason to spend $1,000 on carbon clinches lol! I'll just stick with the bontragers for now.

I'm coming from a 2009 Trek 7.3 FX Hybrid so this is kind of an upgrade

Dude... I just got home from my dads after assembling my brand new white/red trim SL5. I'm upgrading from a base model S5. I will tell you right now that the SL frame is without a doubt the most stunning I've ever seen. I didn't know if there would be a true difference in feel on the road, but the full carbon fork + 500 OCLV + dropouts, WOW IT'S LIKE A FEATHER!!!!!! I'll get pics up tomorrow after I take beauty shots on the bluffs I am SO excited right now and can't wait to add upgrades over time.

I picked up my SL5 last Saturday, but have only ridden it twice, because of pedals. I bought Shimano convertibles, but my feet keep slipping off. Today, I'm gonna have a regular pair of pedals installed so I can get used to riding this bike. At some point in the future, I'll post a picture if I ever figure out this forum's arcane method.

bikeforums logs you out really quickly so I find it's best to use URL images instead of attaching files so that everyone including guests can see the picture without logging in.

1. For nonsensitive material I go to tinypic.com and upload a picture to their image hosting. You don't have to login or anything. Choose file - upload it and copy the Image URL.

2. Now you can come into the post and click "insert image" (the icon that looks like a painting/poster) and click the 2nd tab called "From URL". Paste the URL into the white box and UNCHECK "retreive remote file and reference locally" and press OK.

Questions for SL 6 owners .... first of all... great looking bikes!!!

I'm in the research stage of new bike purchase. Having tried before,I was not a fan of Trek bikes. However, LBS made a suggestion and I gave it a ride. WOW!!! so light, responsive, and great component configuration! Reminded me of my first ride on current bike (2006 Fuji Team). Also, the SL6 has the same components as my current bike ... even the compact.

My questions ... do you feel the SL6 is "aggressive" enough for racing/flying? One thing I like about my current ride is I can get cruising at 20-23 and it feels so easy and smooth. I know the SL6 is great for climbing!!! Was it comfortable on the longer rides of 40- 70 miles?

Many thanks!

You can have a "aggressive" race bike but it's not going to be comfortable on a long ride in comparison to a bike that puts your arms higher on the bars.

I chose the H2 fit on my Emonda, and even with the stem flipped and slammed, I'm still not automatically flat-back low on the bars (plus I purchased the bike in a traditional size - I didn't drop down a size, like lots of cyclists do). In fact, my 2008 Specialized Roubaix, with its epically ginormous head tube, has a stem that flips into negative territory (my Emond's stem doesn't), which can potentially put me lower on the Roubaix than I can get on my Emonda!

On the other hand, I'm slim, slimmer than Sagan and Cancellara and I can get low enough on my bars that my thighs just start to touch my stomach. So I can get very low on my Emond. But that's not a comfortable place to be on a long ride.

Anyway, the Emonda isn't a aero bike. It's certainly a comfortable bike for long rides - I'd have no qualms about taking it for a century spin. I think it nicely splits the difference between an endurance bike and a pure race bike, with the added benefit of serving as an awesome bike for taming the heights.

If you're current bike doesn't put you a lot lower than the Emonda would, then don't worry about it. If your bike does drop you a lot lower than an Emonda, and you truly ride in an aero position, then you'll go a little slower on the SL 6 - but you can work just as hard. Unless you're racing someone, you'd never notice a difference.

The SL isn't aggressive enough you can upgrade to the SLR which is available in H1 and H2 geometry.

So I got a couple rides in and wow, it's seriously a huge upgrade over my S5 model. The frame absorbs vibrations so well. It's a LOT more comfortable with that seat mast. I couldn't be happier!

Got a question. So I came from 105 to 105 again. Having a brand new group is incredibly nice, every shift pops into place immediately. Got it dialed in perfectly after a couple rides to stretch the cables out. I was having a hard time deciding whether or not to upgrade to ultegra and spend more/get the matte black frame I don't like as much. I'm glad I didn't because I honestly can't see how mechanical ultegra would be any better than my brand new 105 gruppo. I guess the .35lbs of weight savings is nice, but can someone clue me in on the "feel" of ultegra vs modern 105? I've never ridden it so I'm kinda out of the loop. Maybe the trim clicks more prominently or something..

Nothing really needs to be added, does it? You pay for weight reduction at this level, and .35 pounds, added into your own weight on the bike, is zip.

You could certainly race a bike with the H2 fit. Given that you like long rides, it wouldn't be a bad choice.

I was just curious if there's really anything beneficial beyond a tiny amount of weight. My friend kept saying to upgrade ultegra without a good reason why. Maybe one day when I'm ready for Di2.

I have both the 6800 Ultegra and 5800 105 on my bikes. I can't tell a significant difference in shift feel. So, it's pretty much just weight and $. When I got my Domane, the 105 wasn't available in 11 speed yet, so I got the Ultegra. Last winter, I upgraded my old bike to 11 speed and saved the $200 or so by going with 105. They are both great.

Alright guys, I'll be the first of us 3 who mentioned our new SL 5's I talk too much so I'll just say this: The design/paint/curves/ride/feel far surpassed my expectations of what a really good carbon frame can be. It's truly incredible and I can't wait to upgrade the wheels (and get it down to ~16lbs). I am SO SO SOOO glad I went with my gut and got the pure white paint. It's unbelievably gorgeous and I'm already getting tons of compliments on it.

I've got 122 miles in my first 3 days on mine. Upgraded from 2009 Trek 7.3 FX Hybrid and I'm literally CRUSHING last seasons Strava records. And this is beginning of the 2016 season legs vs end of the 2015 season leg records. This thing is really fast.
