Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clearly, I have nothing else to do...

I picked up a new 2014 Cinelli Experience, not too long ago, for a price I couldn't refuse.

Since I obviously have nothing better to do with my time I've decided to upgrade some things on it. So far, I've upgraded everything to Shimano 105 (5700), and the saddle to a Fizik Antares. The stem, seatpost, and handlebars are actually pretty good; I like them so they're staying.

The next quandary is the wheels...

The Shimano R501's, that came stock on the bike, sucked in a big way. I replaced them with a newish set of Mavic CXP22's I had sitting around the garage. They're better than the Shimano R501's but not by much. I've been thinking about the following three options:

1. Mavic Ksyrium Equipe S (how much better are these than the CXP22's?)
2. Fulcrum Racing 5 (I've read the freehubs are quite loud on these. Is that true?)
3. HED Belgium w/DT Swiss hubs (I've heard nothing bad about these, but the price is a bit beyond my budget, but if they're worth it...)

Any input would be appreciated to help narrow down the decision. I don't race; I'm mainly just a commuter/weekend-rider with nothing else to obsess about, i.e. no kids, no other hobbies, etc.

Thanks.

I have heard that the Experience is less harsh than my Xperience, but I would only consider wide rims (Pacenti, Kinlin XC-279, Velocity A23) with 25's on mine to take the harsh out of the ride.

I've never tried the Xperience, but I can say my Experience rides pretty darn smooth with 23's, and 110psi in both tires. I was actually very surprised at how smooth it is; I was expecting it to be quite harsh considering the aluminum frame.

Nice. Mine is an '08, and it is as stiff as a loan officer.
