Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uczHKAZI85o Speaking of baby elephants, a veterinary friend posted this to FB.

Nandi the baby elephant excited to see her keepers in the morning. A little too excited. Sweetness.

My first day of vacation. Slept in til 5am and decided I had time to lie abed for an hour. But we haven't started packing yet, we'll have to get moving soon.

I haven't planned too much because this is a family trip, just going to keep things flexible. However I know there are several things I would like to accomplish:

1. Hot rock massage. Also pedicure.
2. Spin class, never tried it. Yoga, been neglecting it.
3. Wine, try some new ones
4. "Specialty" dining (ie the pay extra restaurants) every night. This is the only part I've already scheduled.
5. Miniature golf every day if the lines aren't crazy
6. Read my Kindle books: the Sports Gene, Hell on Two Wheels and Faster
7. Left to our own devices, we'd go sailing & snorkeling in every port. But we'll probably go with the group flow on this one.

Thats all.

Back home from meetings, home sweet home. No time to ride after work today, but looking forward to Sat/Sun rides. I hate a week of no riding. Might hit the gym tonight.

Did I miss anything?

@Bah Humbug got a promotion @coasting mentioned a new Ms Coasting casually, but we noticed @Trsnrtr told us the origin of his BF name and also got over the flu @Velo Vol is still missing @3alarmer made turnip soup @RollCNY suddenly is recommended gears for bike's, with no explanation

Otherwise just the usual stuff- people rode their bikes or didn't for various reasons. People contemplated buying new things for their bikes. People posted pictures of things.

Oh yeah and @WhyFi got a new set of screwdrivers and he was reminded not to use them as chisels.

Thats all I can think of.

HP, I'm in Florida. I'm going to spin my legs today before riding with a group out of Stepford, oops, I mean the Villages, tomorrow. This will be my first ride in two weeks. Still feel weak but want to spin a few miles before joining others even if they are old people.

...I heard that Specialized is considering suing other manufacturers for intellectual property infringement over the concept of "shoes".

I like the way Specialized shoes fit and have no trouble with their road shoes but I find the cleat mounting on their mtb shoes to be too far inward allowing my feet to roll to the outside. Don't like that.

I am flying to Miami today. Have no idea what this Villages is of which you speak. But I have a semi-picture in my mind. Something to do with Florida, retired people, huge community, organized activities.

Good idea on the spin before the old people group ride, I have found some old people to be really fast. You have Addiction standards to uphold now, don't embarrass us.

@Heathpack, thanks for the executive summary. That'll save me an hour of reading to catch up. Enjoy the cruise!

@Trsnrtr, after a few days of no sun and crappy weather, should be ideal riding weather coming.

And 5:00 am Pacific is 8:00 am Eastern, so I think it constitutes sleeping in.

The Villages is a large retirement community. It's sort of a weird, sterile, controlled environment. Some people love it and others get freaked out just being visiting. I'm kind of in the freaked out camp.
