Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Come down with a cold lately?

Im in day two of a cold which has been fairly mild as they go, perhaps due to my decent fitness for this time of year. It stinks to get sick while trying to get ready for the Spring and lose some fitness while recovering. I'm pretty good about washing my hands if touching things or shaking hands with others. I'm guilty of eating at a lot of restaurants lately and I bet that's where I picked up the bug. Cooks and staff come in no matter what and pass it on to the diners. I hadn't had a cold in 3 years so I was due I reckon. I just got off the trainer and sweat like a pig so I hope that will help.

Don't ignore the importance of full recovery, before you really start back to hard work on the bike. The viruses going around these days are very prone to causing relapses. You could end up losing more time and fitness by rushing things than by taking your time to really get well. A couple of days to get better isn't going to hurt you in the long run.

I think I'm getting a milder form of my GFs cold after a run down, busy week. I've been doing well putting in base "miles" on trainer, this week not so much. Will see if I can do an easy 1:00 spin in a bit - no way I'm doing 2 2:00 hr rides this weekend as planned.

Yes, it blows to come down sick just as a holiday weekend with descent weather arrives.

Indeed!! I picked up the cold I think everyone around me had immediately after Christmas. Was sick thru New Year's but continued to run, ride, lift......eventually sent myself thru a relapse as I *thought* I was getting better. I'm still not 100% but close.

The way I got there was COMPLETELY staying off my feet last weekend. Went home from work Friday, threw on the sweats & pretty much stayed on the couch all weekend except for a shower on Sunday. Sunday night I could feel things turn.

Being sick SUCKS!

December 25th started feeling symptoms coming on, did a cold ride early on the 26th and then fought the crud for the next couple of weeks.

Jan 5: 0530 got to the gym, worked out and felt fine. Went to work, still good. Left work, ran some errands, picked up a prescription for the wife at the doctor office, felt it coming on, made an appointment for the next day. Good thing I did because when I got home I got hit by a brick wall with this bug. Almost two weeks, still hacking. Actually getting better, went out and rode 5.5 miles on some trails by the house. May be doing a 20 mile road ride tomorrow, see how I feel when I get up.

nasty crap is going around, have to be careful it does not go to bronchitus or pneumonia as we have had both
