Giant AnyRoad -- Anyone with real life experience with them? (and other gravel bikes)
Last summer I accidentally rode several miles of gravel roads when I got lost on a unsupported/unplanned century. It was a blast despite my skinny 23mm on my Fuji Gran Fondo. Since then I've ridden a few gravel roads (not as bad as the first ones) and I'm hooked.
I'm planning on dedicating some of my ridding time on gravel but I'm convinced my Gran Fondo won't hold up to anything other hard packed gravel/dirt. Add that to the fact I need a bike for my son (see my previous thread on this https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...owing-boy.html) I thought it was a perfect opportunity to invoke the N+1 rule.
So back to the title of this thread. I came across this bike while browsing Giant's line up on their website. I don't know if I like it or dislike it but it sure looks different than what I've seen. I usually like things that are different and I've been contemplating a visit to a shop to see it in person. It's a little bit more than I'd want to spend for my soon but if I'm going to be riding it... well maybe I can justify with the wife.
DOes anybody here have anything good or bad to say about this bike specifically or any other options I should be looking at?

No experience with those bikes, but for any offroad I ride a steel touring triple which works fine. But if I were to buy today for that, I would get a CX bike with appropriate tires and have at it. My touring has a 28x28 on 27" wheels low which goes anywhere. Would consider fitting "cross" aux brake levers if you intend any serious downhill. (I find I have to use the drops to get enough brake pressure on my canti brakes and my wrists get sore after a while). Maybe with discs it isn't such a big problem and you can get good performance on the hoods.

No experience myself, but I saw a similar bike, the GT Grade aluminum frame with 105 could be had for around $1300. Very tempting.

I saw the Anyroad live-and-in-person, but the styling just doesn't suit me at all.

The GT is one of the bikes on my list to go see in person. They have a sora version starting at about $800 if memory serves me.

I don't think that bike is a great value, This Giant is- FastRoad SLR 1 (2015) | Giant Bicycles | United States
You get giant's best aluminum for lower price and spec wise pretty similar. I know one is flat bar and one is drops but the better frame for less makes me question the Anyroad's value in Giant's lineup.
