Way ahead of you. Been doing that for years. As I said early on here, I gave up the wax thing about 10 years ago (and the teflon suspension thing too) due to that fouling the rear derailleur thing. I did like everything else about the wax though.

i'll just state my experience with waxing chains.
i was living in Denver at the time and commuting about 15 miles a day.
took the chain off, heated some paraffin i bought at the grocery store, dipped the clean chain in the hot liquid paraffin and laid it on a paper grocery bag. when dry (not long) i put it back on. took about 20 minutes, maybe less.
next day i rode the bike and was impressed, there was no noise at all, very smooth shifting too. about a week later (60 miles) the noise was back and the chain needed re-waxing. i went through this routine about three times before i thought it wasn't worth the effort. never tried it again. this was back in '83.

Waxers, how long do you cook your chains?

I thought the chain was supposed to sit in the hot wax a while. 20 minutes for the whole job sounds to me like my too quick/too light chain oilings that do not get down to the rollers. And that sweet 1st ride but the noise back soon. Yeah, that's the usual result og my quick oilings.
