Everyone else has already bashed this ridiculous 'scene' sufficiently, so I won't add to it.

Time for my contribution. I finally found a 1983 Raleigh catalog! Unfortunately it shows the 83' GP as a 12-speed, so I guess mine is a little older. Gotta keep searching.

It has a made in Taiwan sticker on the frame, so I think it is indeed an 83'. When I get it back from the LBS I'll check the stampings on the derailleurs as roccobike suggested.
