I have (by advice from sheldonbrown.com) added some thinner oil into the freewheel and that sorted it out. Another not so good advice was to stop and pee on the freewheel to get it warmer..

Donīt underestimate the effect of real good handles and/or good biking gloves, a naked steel bar is sexy but a killer for numb hands, get good mtb grips is my advice, it helped me.

For what itīs worth, I ride an old 10-speeder converted to SS with a freewheel and really enjoy it, why not just try and see? a freewheel is cheap.
