My closest encounter with a puma was while running my dog off leash in the Oakland hills. I was able to see and leash my dog before crossing paths with a guy walking a cougar on leash.

I've seen a lot of critters up in the trees. I'm not sure 'stuck' is a good description. They usually find a way down when they are ready.
