I asked this in another form but no answer and figure you all would know better anyways.
Is a Shimano Utegra Hollowtech II BB compatible with a FSA Gossamer Compact crank or will I need to also use am FSA BB

The answer is: not always.
I tried to use a regular MegaExo BB with a Shimano Dura Ace crank and it wouldn't work (without shimming). However, the MegaExo ceramic BB might work, but again, might also require modification. A couple years back some pros were running the MegaExo ceramic BB with Shimano but there wasn't mention of what it took to get it to play nice.

In other words, it might be best to stay Shimano with Shimano and FSA with FSA.

When I first went with the FSA crank 3 years ago, the shop told me I should just buy a Shimano BB and s***can the FSA BB. Direct replacement, no issues. Going strong ever since with zero issues.

Answer from FSA’s Dae Oh

The short answer; no, the FSA K-Force Light Rd. Crank is not compatible with a Chris King bottom bracket (made to Shimano compatible dimensions). Also, the K-Force Rd. crankset will not be compatible either.

The FSA BB8200 (meant for K-Force Light) uses a 6 mm width bearing. This allows us to make the bottom bracket outside to outside dimension more narrow providing room for a wave washer. The BB8000 (meant for K-Force) does indeed use a 7 mm width bearing, yet its design does not allow for use of a Chris King bottom bracket.

However our popular alloy cranksets, the Gossamer Rd. and the Energy Rd. is compatible with the Chris King bottom bracket (made to Shimano compatible dimensions). These cranks use BB6000, this BB's dimensions are compatible with Shimano.

So the answer is that aluminum FSA cranks are compatible with Shimano BB's, while carbon FSA cranks are not?

Right - Shimano BB works for AL cranks, not carbon.
I looked this up after I replaced my FSA BB with a Token. The LBS used a shim on the non-drive side of the FSA BB8200 when I paired it up with a DuraAce crank - I switched from a SLK compact to a DA standard.
I couldn't figure out why the shim was needed until I saw the VeloNews Tech post.

Not to steal this thread but does that mean that the cups are the same size not just the bearings? I ask because I've been looking at upgrading to phil wood bearings for my bottom bracket but ive got an fsa gossamer crank and would like to just be able to replace the bearings only instead of the whole bottom bracket. Thanks, Greg

I acquired a Mega Exo BB-8200 bottom bracket and would like to use it with my Shimano FC-6600 crank. Are they compatible?? If not - is there a fix?

No. The BB-8200 is for the K-Force Light and SLK Light Road cranks and isn't compatible with Shimano. They're narrower to account for the different Q Factor of those cranks. Fix is to use a 7900 Dura-Ace if you want to use a decent BB other than the regular MegaExo
