Forum phrases and terms that should just stop being used. . .

OK, I'll start the list. Add to it as you see fit. Give us your biggest pet peeves. C'mon.

"That being said, . . ." or the shorter "That said, . . ."
Hey, we're mountain bikers - - active people - - action heroes. There is no place for the worst of passive-voice phrases here.
"Steed"
"Stable"
. . . and other equine references. We got onto two wheels to move beyond depending on those ornery, smelly, *****-dribbling hay-burners.
"Whip"That's all for now. Have at it.

That being said, my favorite steed in my stable of bikes rides like a whip.

"crazy jumps or drops"
As in: "I don't intend on doing any crazy jumps or drops on it" when the person really means they will rarely get the tires off the ground more than a foot or two. 'Crazy' gets reserved for the truly extreme, like a double with a 40' gap over a pit of alligators . . . or a 20' drop to a one-foot wide ladder bridge over a deep canyon. You get the idea; getting airborne isn't 'crazy.'

What? No. "That said" is a perfectly acceptable hedging statement. What's your active-voice alternative, "Having said that?" It's totally equivalent, and there is no ambiguity.

>"Steed"

Agreed, because it's just wankery.

>"Stable"

Disagree. What's your equivalent? "Bike collection"? One word is better than two, and it has a very clear meaning.

"Having said that" is still passive voice. Wuss.

"In spite of that," "nonetheless" or just plain "but" work just fine. And 'hedging statement?' Hedging is a passive, evading action. Be direct, don't hedge; man up.

Anything but "stable" or "quiver." I happen to like "arsenal." Direct. Active. Non-girly-and-her-pony. "Bike collection" is, of course, redundant. It's a bike; so your probably not adding it to your stamp collection (you philatelist). "Collection" would be OK - - a bit passive, makes you sound like a collector who doesn't ride. Still better than sounding like a girl with her pony, though.

arsenal is good, lets get that started.

"In small towns and big cities we came together as democrats, republicans, and independents to stand up and say that we are one nation, one people, and our time for change has come!"
(in reference to these um forums no-no's of course)

I like arsenal! It sounds powerful and explosive; manly even. Sounds like you're ready to blow some crap up. Lemme try it on...

I have an arsenal of steeds for hitting crazy jumps and drops!

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I still like arsenal though

But sometimes it's most suitable term - - and sometimes, well, it's just the most hacktastic one .
