NEW - Retina-searing Cycling Shirt for Evening / Low Light Commutes

I am in LOVE.

It is a rare day when I buy cycle specific clothing. But it was love at first sight. For me, this is the perfect thing for my dark winter commutes in heavy city traffic.

Notice, printed on the sleeve is, well, as they put it:

BONUS FEATURE -- If, while riding, you are approached by a motorist who wishes to "discuss" whether your presence in the roadway is a lawful endeavor in the first place, as a courtesy to you, we have added the text of the United States Universal Vehicle Code, §11-1205 to the sleeve, which explains in reasonable detail that a cyclist is in fact allowed the right hand side of the road, as well listing the circumstances under which the cyclist is legally entitled to the entire lane.

I am more worried about the cops telling me I am obstructing traffic. Now if only this jersey had padded wrists for handcuff comfort!

Check it out! Elevengear Traffic Master Jersey

Cool shirt!

Joey - what part of New Orleans do you live in? I grew up in Gentilly, but now live in Northern Virginia....

Made in the USA with Italian high tec fabric. I can't tell you how sweet this thing feels inside and out. The cut is perfect, even for my "monkey arms". Full zip front. This thing has it all. You still get what you pay for.

I like the idea - although I'm pretty sure that even more "searing" would have been to add more reflectives. My Brooks running jacket has more reflectives than this one - albeit not as big on the back.

Jeebus that's loud. Shame they didn't add more reflective material (or use reflective fabric.)

I like it. I almost want one but like stated earlier. A bill seems high to me.

Not for nothing, but I think it is called the Uniform Traffic Code (not universal). Cool shirt and idea though.

Is it waterproof? Seems like it's not, otherwise they would probably say something about it in their advert.

I wonder how it does in the rain. Certainly looks right up my alley.

That triangle on the back of the jersey meets the WA requirement for riding at night so that caught my eye immediately. I've seen basically one other biker around here w/ one of those reflectors, he pins it to his messenger bag.

It's not rain gear, other than the fact that it is 100% synthetic and won't make you cold when it gets wet. Rain would go right through it.

One interesting note, not on their Website. At first, the material seems to be double - like a liner and outer fabric. Somehow, they made the back side "peached" texture - slightly fuzzy but not exactly fleece. The white color of the inside of the fabric is what really makes the bright colors up front leap off the fabric. But you do get the sense that the fabric is two layers thick but no movement occurs between the imaginary two layers. The exterior has a tiny grid pattern woven into the fabric. Looks a bit like ripstop, but the opposite - the tiny squares are raised a bit from the grid lines. I don't think I can put into words how soft this fabric is both inside and out.

The triangle is not reflective. The only reflective parts are two strips of material above and below the rear pockets and a strip around each wrist (for giving hand signals I guess). The company's claim is for low light, fog, compromised visibility enhancement. Certainly it is wicked bright in broad daylight. The "Scotchlite" type reflective strips are added for pitch dark use, but I have blinkies for that purpose. I think the colors are best for those times when there is enough light to make blinkies much less noticable, but less than direct sunlight. Dreary, overcast days for example, or those minutes between sunset and total darkness.

Wow, some pretty nice stuff there... enough to make me shelling out some bucks. I previously bought some real eye catching stuff from Primal Wear, but these days most everything they have is somewhat low key... at least the last I looked.

Beyond the Elevengear Traffic Master Jersey, the Doppler shift looks cool too.

How's it fit size wise?

I'm not sure if I would want to hold my arm close enough to a motorist who wished to "discuss" my presence on the roadway for them to read it...

Motorist blasts past and screams "get on the sidewalk!"... you catch up with him/her at the next red light... they open their window whereupon you stick your arm in and ask them to read the text... whereupon they apologize, you shake hands and you both ride/drive off into the sunset...

I went by their online sizing chart. I have enough room under mine for some light thermals. It's not a "race" fit by nature but no flapping in the wind either. Perfect for my use. I love the full zip feature 'cause it warms up real fast here in NOLA once the sun gets up a bit in the AM. I leave work in the dark most days, so I zip all the way up.

If you got a spare Benji, I think you will be pleased. Including freight to NOLA was $102 and it got here REAL fast.

I recycle, rebuild and resell enough bikes to pretty much cover the moderate amount I spend on bikes and gear, so the cost doesn't bother me. I recently garbage picked two Schwinn Collegiates in very good condition that will fetch me about a Benji a piece.

I've been wearing cheap hi-vis jerseys from Performance and Nashbar but your review convinced me that I won't be disappointed if I step it up a notch. I believe it's true, you often do get what you pay for.

What is your estimation of the durability of this jersey? Has anyone else here run any Elevengear jerseys over an extended period?
