help with 1982 Peugeot Centennial Edition PH12 purchase

I am considering buying this Peugeot. The pictures in the add dont really show the components, so I will take a look in person. I just want an idea of this year bike and the price range, if I should offer a lower offer.

https://gainesville.craigslist.org/bik/1629605544.html

Basically I have an 80s Bianchi frame that I love, but is now set up as a fixed gear. I want a bike with more speeds and a free wheel so i can go on long bike rides and not worry about loosing my knees... Anyway, my girlfriend loves the bianchi as is, so if the peugeot is a good road bike, better than the bianchi frame + 300$ worth of parts?

Thanks!

Good condition. Almost all original parts. Rear derailleur and seat post have been replaced. A little rust on the down tube. Aerodynamic down tube and seat tube, and internal brake and shifter cable routing.

I have this bike and it is not bad at all. I paid 100$ for mine and it was in excellent condition. Given that it is a carbolite 103 bike, it has some pretty decent components. Simplex Super LJ derailleurs, CLB brakes, and Stronglight cranks. One of the cool things is that headbadge was only made that year. I have used mine as a commuter and logged over a thousand miles last year on it. Here is a pic of mine.

Not sure if it's worth 270$ in my area but in yours it may. Peugeots seem to fetch a good price for some reason.

It's a good representation of the mini aero bike boom that happened in the 80's when many manufacturers tried their hand at aero profile tubing for the top and mid and lower ranges of their bicycle model lineup (Motobecane at that time had similar mid and lower level aero bikes known as "Profils"). The Centennial bike from Peugeot was basically a "flattened" PH10 frame as it has the same tubing material and stamped dropouts, although it does have some special touches like the internal top tube cable routing to add to the aero theme, plus the special centennial badging. It also shares the now obsolete French type FD brazed on mounting as the higher model PSV/PSN. It also had the now very sought after, very light and I suspect now rare CLB brakeset. Not sure but there could be a chance that the RD is an ultra fantastic SLJ6600 and not the mid level SX610?? as the 6600 carries the "Aerodynamic" tag on it....I don't remember and I wouldn't be surprised it it was as the PH12 had a weird mix of highline and regular "cooking" French components
I suspect that the bike rides very much like a PH10 (which I owned) which means responsive/lively, but maybe a bit stiffer vertically (could be a bit harsher ride), although a bit on the slightly heavy side with the straight guage, aero profile Carbolite tubing. With a few mods (lighter wheels, better saddle, the bike should be a very fun ride. I still miss my PH10 after all these years....
Funny thing is, this bike was supposedly a special edition bike for the Centennial which implies that not as many were built as other models of that single year. But so most of these PH12s were bought and stashed away as collector bikes, The result is, many are still out there and are now being sold in the used bike market that are in fantastic condition. I still think that it's a good deal at 270 bucks if it's close to mint, but I wouldn't pay more. 300 max and that is really high already for this bike IMO....unless it does have an SLJ6600 RD which now command $220+ NOS at eBay.
BTW, make sure that the original aero water bottle is incuded when you buy this bike......hopefuly in new, unused condition (although you can stil find it out there as NOS at eBay..... the aero bottle (by Cobra or REG??....I think it was by Cobra) was icing on this cake.

Dohh! I tossed the aero bottle in the garbage because it was pretty nasty and I didn't think I would ever drink anything out of it.. Yes, the rear derailleur is the SLJ6600 and it shifts like a dream. The brakes are the lightweight CLB's but they are currently on my Trek 730 since good nutted brakes seem hard to find. The bike is a bit heavy but does ride well.

Its kind of rough for $270.

With the excpetion of the bar tape, cables and tires mine was all original I think I sold it for $350 but I'm not sure.

So, it does have the SLJ6600 afterall! If it is in good condition, $270 is a big bargain then!! Buy it NOW!!!

It says in the post that the rear Derailleur has been changed. May want to ask whats on there and bargain him down some since it's not original.
