Peugeot PGN10 (pics) - please help me get this on the road again!!

i have a gorgeous Peugeot PGN10 that i've had since childhood, i actually used to race on it but i'm now missing part of the seatpost. its the only thing stopping me from getting it on the road. its 26.4mm if anyone knows anyone who has one or where i could get one.

someone mentioned french ebay shops can you recommend one? i had a look and saw tons of bikes but couldn't see a shop, my french is not too good

That bike (and Peugeot's period Vitus 980 frames) used an Atax seatpost with an expander bolt, similar to the stem. These occasionally show up on ebay, but I do not see them very often (other than on mid-80's peugeots).

Which part of the seatpost is missing? Would it be possible to salvage the needed part from a stem or another seatpost?

Why I sold the one I had. Of course there was no childhood sentiment attached.

if you see one will you think of me cos i been looking for years and i might have to try something else but don't want to modify it really.

i was thinking i would actually, one of the bolts is welded tight with rust but i think the other is all i need. it might be hard to find something to fit but i'll pop into a new bike shop i found and see if they have any ideas. lbs weren't any help at all

Easiest way to find one is get one with another bike. Those seat posts are rare, and sell for quite a bit on ebay. One comes up a couple of times a year. Save a couple of ebay searches, but be ready to pay. I bought a bike last winter with one of those seat posts. Bike cost me $100. Along with the seat post (which I have seen go for $100 on ebay), I got a complete bike, with a good 700c wheelset, good tires, handlebars, stem, headset, bottom bracket, crankset, derailleurs, seat. Part that out and the seat post is just about free.

There was another thread on a homemade version. Not ideal, but it would get you in business.

i saw that homemade version before i think and was thinking the same myself, it couldn't be too hard to make one if i had the right one to start in the first place. i see the same bike on craigslist in texas with the same post alas i'm 5000 miles away but i did text him

emailled them just in case they had any ideas, maybe they could machine a bigger one down to fit but its not really the size but the quill thing itself

thanks for all the replies though

Now that I see the design, if I had a mind to, I could take a standard seatpost and modify it to make it an internal expanding type. A suitable tightening screw can be purchased from a hardware store or McMaster. A nut can be salvaged from a stem or machined from bar stock. If you know a creative machinist, he would get the idea.

I just built a seat post for my PGN-10. (Stupid French sizing!) I found a post at budget bicycle center in Madison, WI. I cut a wedge into the post and found a thin 12" bolt and a large metal wedge. Then you take a drill and put a hole in the top of the post to take the bolt and bingo. I've been happily riding my resurrected Peugeot for a year now!

thats great, i'm thinking i'll have to do the same it doesn't look too hard if i get the right post to start with, here is the one thats in it at the moment.

it might just involve drilling a hole into the new post and cutting a few gaps in the end although the inside of the post would have to be right. any pics of your one?
