Advice - Specialized Serrius (Late 80s - Early 90s?)
This guy wants $100 bucks for this bike:
Specialized Sirrus Road Bike. 22" Frame. Stand Over is 31.5". Shimano 105 Components. I believe it's an early 90's model. It rides, and shifts well. Has some paint scraping on the top bar. Overall the paint is pretty nice. It will need new tires, but is rideable for now.
What do you guys think? I'm a newbie--from looking through old posts here it seems pretty fair. I guess new tires will run me $100-150 ?
Is the $100 fair if the bike rides well?
Thanks a lot, I will probably see about meeting up with him tonight unless people throw red flags.

That would easily sell for 200-250 in my area.
You can get EXCELLENT tires for under 40 each mail order. Hell - the Performance brand aren;t that bad and are under $20. I had a 1990 Sirrus, which I think was after this model. If memory serves, the 91's were the first year that came with rx100 instead of 105. Your's has single pivot brakes and bio-pace...so I think it's earlier than you think it is.
I think your's is an 87 or 88'...maybe even 85-86'.

$100 to $150 for new tires? Have you looked at any of the on line suppliers? $30 to $40 for a pair of tires can get you something pretty decent.
Nashbar has their Prima 2 Plus on sale right now for $9.99. Buy $50 worth of stuff, and get an additional 15% off that price.

+1...run, don't walk. THat's a lot of bang for the buck. My 1990 Sirrus was the bike I attempted racing on as a teen and I have very fond memories of it...it was an excellent value and a reliable bike with good components...the only thing I didn;t like were the wolber rims.

Bikes: '74 Raleigh LTD-3, '76 Motobecane Grand Jubile, '83 Fuji TSIII (customized commuter), '10 Mercier Kilo WT (fixed obsession), '83 Bianchi Alloro, '92 Bridgestone MB-1 (project), '83 Specialized Expedition (project), '79 Peugeot UO-8 (sold)
If that popped up on my CL for $100 I'd be on it faster than a pack 'o dogs on a 3-legged cat.
Don't hesitate or it'll be gone.

Thanks guys.
I just got off the phone with the guy and he sounds stand-up. He was completely forthright--he said the bike is a solid B. He still said he thinks the tires need to be replaced soon, and that I can do it cheaply (as you guys have said) off amazon.
He also told me that he does buy bikes, fix them up and then resell them.

I would get old and grey trying to sell this for $200. As usual. Overly enthusiastic.

Perhaps in your area with your marketing skills. Not in mine. I could have that sold at $225 in under two weeks (and that's conservative). I feel $250 is VERY possible.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
That's a 89 Sirrus. I have one that was given to me in pieces. Your's look to be in great shape. These are very nice race bikes, and if you can get it for $100 and it's clean, straight and components are complete, you did very well. It's full Shimano 105 7 speed SIS, with Uniglide freewheel. This one looks complete. Snag it fast!

I picked it up. Thanks for all the response.
Considering the bike is about 20 years old, it seems to be in great shape. This is my first road bike.
I'm going to take to take it out for a ~15 mile ride after work tomorrow.
Again, thanks for all the responses. I hope to get a lot of use out of this thing.

I don't have much trouble finding bikes like this. It's difficult to find them super clean. And where I live unless it's super clean it's not going to sell for $200+ unless it's something amazing. And after two weeks the CL crowd starts to annoy me. Again, super clean, yeah $200. And maybe I could have squeezed out another $50, but this bike was not as clean as those pictures indicate. Now I would expect $200-300 for the Bianchi.
I have been selling bikes for years. I have never paid more the $60 for any bike. Never! And I make $$$$+ a year selling them.
Some of you guys need to get out more.
Oh, I think I have a free Raleigh walking up. By.
