No, not *that* junk. I want to see your low end vintage bicycles. This was inspired by new member wilz02wrx's post:
Forged lugs need not apply
I think a Schwinn Varsity qualifies so I'll start it off.
I have a late 80s ross that i ride. i know its not and expensive nice bike, but its what i have and what i could afford. Idk how this forum treats low end bikes, so sorry if i seem defensive. I was just wondering if on this forum where would i post in. Is my bike "vintage" as its easily older than 20 years or is there a different place i should post.
thank you for reading and have great day

The no P content, UO8 appreciation thread.
There are so many mid-level bikes around, I'm tapped out of space as it is

83 Raleigh Olympian - chromo single-butted main triangle
From a period when Huffy took over running Raleigh of America.

At the summit after a 3600ft climb, with stock parts, most of which I have replaced since.

Pretty much as the bike is at the moment. I realize now that I do not have a good picture of this bicycle.
This is my main bike, but most people on these forums are telling me its junk.
I have a 82 Team FUJI in parts, and a 84 Trek 460 I am working on atm. Even though the Olympian is junk, its atleast a racing/touring hybrid so I can put paneers on it.

A whole lotta junk up in that trunk...
On the stand is my 82/84 Schwinn World Tourist. This ain't no gaspipe Schwinn neither, it had a sticker that said X-tra Lite and it had that swing-ding-diddely Forward Freewheel Positron drivetrain. I modified the drivetrain with bottom of the barrel parts from Niagara in a 5 speed config, put a big fricken basket on the front, and adourned it with a couple of stickers from the local skateboard shop. It may not be Classic or Vintage but it is almost 30 years old and it does turn heads
and it is slicker than snot.Oh yea, since it was the rigid cable positron system there was no cable stop on the chainstay, so I MacGyvered one from a brake barrel adjuster, a hose clamp and tape. Then gave it a squirt of paint to match the frame.

now doesn't that just scream "b!tchen bike and watch out, that's a b!tchen dude on that b!tchen bike"

I also know what you can do with that wood you strapped on there. It makes me look at my Sigma, Wasburn, and Ibanez with disgust, lol. On the other hand, I can still feel nothing but love for my Takamini EF621 and my Giannini 12 string is a true work of art.
When I win the lottery, you're my first phone call. Seriously!

Peugeot P4 (even lower than my often denigrated U08)
No lug-internally brazed HLE frame
Huret Eco DR's
I like it. It's light and nimble.
(It's my first choice to ride home with me every time I drop my other junk at the Auto repair shop!)

'73 Suburban. Picked from my neighbor's trash. Weighs a ton and lot'sa fun!

My 73 'Raleigh Record - Bottom rung in the hierarchy of road bikes BITD.
Everyone should have one.
Pure high-ten.
I like high-ten.

Bike Boom Ganna - Another high ten bike. Still has its orignal dimpled steel wheels, that make a goofy "whirrrring" sound whenever I apply the brakes. Campy equipped though - Valentino that is! (Shifts are smoother with a screwdriver.)

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
My wife's bike. Typical bike boom era 10-speed in 26 x 1-3/8" wheels. I polished it up, swapped some parts and made it a townie cruiser. It's crap-tastically heavy, but she digs it and it was actually fun to build up. May go on sale as I got her another cruiser, and she doesn't follow N+1.

Bikes: To many to list...
Here is my junk. Its a mid-80's Peugeot US Express 24" mountain bike I have fixed up and a mini-ish velo. I have commuted on it a few times already and I am trying to decide if I keep it cheap and ratty or upgrade it with some nicer bits. I am leaning towards just a wider drop bar, a set of new hoods, bartape maybe a throw a better rear derailer and just ride it everywhere as my main commuter. I need to order some fenders for it and I put a rear rack on it earlier this week.

Junk!
My 1990 Schwinn World Sport...bought it brand spanking new....first and only new road bike

My 1988ish Schwinn Impact - I think I paid $30 for it...it serves as the mountain bike of my "fleet"

My 1972 Schwinn Suburban...just picked this up a week ago from the orginal owner for $50 - it is minty fresh and rides like a dream (a heavy dream) but a dream all the same - this will serve as my around town errand cruiser, and I think it's going to become a "fleet" favorite...I love this bike!

Well I don't have it anymore, but it was my favorite junk bike. Trash picked, faux denim saddle and goes by the name 'The Dude'. It went to a student who used to work with me and got stolen a few years ago. Over the past few months I am pretty sure I have seen an older guy riding it to work -- I really wanted to get up close to see if it was my old bike, but we have been on opposite sides of the street.

Two univegas I did up for a friend and his wife. Sport 10's I think. He is a painter and untill he dies he won't make enough money to buy a new bike. His wife got on hers and could not believe it. She had never ridden anything but dept store bikes.

Then there is my Maruishi Emperor. Found in a shed at the city park where I worked, tons of weeds growing through it. Love this bike so much.

And I also ride a world tourist, with the FF wheel system. Just put alloy wheels on it, but kept the drivetrain, which I like a lot. It freaks people out when they see the chain spinning when I am coasting.
