Scored a Peugeot Competition today!

Today i came across this at my local swap meet and knew instantly i had to have it. I saw it and rushed over to a lady selling it and asked how much. She wanted $150 but the bike is in good shape with all the original components. The first thing i liked was the drilled out stronglight peugeot cranks and these really cool Atax bars "Franco-Italia" so i tried to heckle her down to $100 but she would'nt budge, i offered her all the money on me $120 and the bike was mine. Everything was dirty but it protected most of the goods from rusting. Everything is great except the headset and bb have dried out and need re greasing.

It's a big one, 64cm but i usually ride anything from 60-63cm. I researched a little bit and figured it was this model, Peugeot PKN10E "Competition" My brother needed the mavics for his frejus restoration so i was happy to help him out so i have some campy 7 speed clinchers for it. Does anyone own one of these or know a bit more then i do about this fine machine. Was the price right? Thanks!

1980 catalog

The forks are not this rusty, my camera made it look worse then it really is. Some fine steel wool should do the trick.

Don't use steel wool on the chrome, use Naval jelly or chrome polish.

I get great results from Turtle wax chrome wheel polish and a tooth brush.

Nice find!!

Nice one, Harry. I look forward to seeing that one built up here.

PS- I like doing fork tips in a bucket of OA. It's even less abrasive than polish and gets the inside as well. It's good to spritz some Boeshield T19 into the vent holes as well afterwrd, and swoosh it around good. (Not a bad precaution for the frame as well.)

Got mine at the Dump a while back. Got a fork set for it a couple of weeks ago. Now all I need is the unusual braze on front derailleur.

Nice bicycles and you will probably love the ride quality. I like my sixties PX10 and am looking forward to trying the Super Competition out.

Here is mine all built up, sorry i don't have a better pic. Just replaced that horrible tyoga saddle with an SDG saddle my buddy hooked me up with. I must agree that it is one of the best riding pugs i have owned, the superbe pro rd and campagnolo wheels really give it that nice ride. Also the drilled out stronglight cranks get people talking.

I'm also going to replace the center pulls with a campy brakeset!

Oh man, you did great. That's my favorite kind of bike. It's right in the middle price point but it rides like a high end bike.

Don't change the brakes. They don't get better. Are those Mafacs or Weinmanns?

I test rode the PKN-10, and I couldn't distinguish it from the PXN-10, the top of the line at the time. It's just a tiny bit heavier.

Harry, that is a pretty nice find. It's great to find a bike that's your size and at a reasonable price. Really nice score atmo.

They are actually Universal center pulls with the weinmann levers and hoods, i was planning on swaping the brakes for pleasure and mainly because i need those universals for my Raliegh project. (you guys will love that too)

I'm glad you guys like it!

The universals are REALLY nice. Glad to hear they'll not go to waste.
You pug looks beautiful - The blue & yellow is one of my all time favorite color combo's for Peugeot.

+1, always works well for me. Do that, then use chrome polish, should restore it perfectly.
