mercier kilo and flite 100 the same?

i was looking at some flites on velospace today....it seems to me as though the headtube angle is different, so they can't be the same frame.....anyone have any data to back this up? i could have just been tricked by camera angles.

okay, yeah, i'd heard they were "the same", but looking at some bikes today, it didn't seem that was true. i noticed a way dif. head tube angle.

I think the geo is different, but everything else is the same. Crowned fork, tubing, eyelets etc.

This is my post from another similar thread

Now compare say a 57cm frame

KHS Flite 100 (57):
HT angle: 75*
ST angle: 74*
Top Tube: 575mm
Chainstay: 401mm
Fork Offset: 28 mm

Mercier Kilo TT (57):
HT angle: 73.5*
ST angle: 74*
Top Tube: 590mm
Chainstay: 405mm
Fork Offset: 40 mm

Maybe they are made by the same people, maybe they are made of the same material, but I am sorry these are not the same frames.

Dang Neil! That's an impressive report, but you are forgetting one key variable. The Kilo in your post is the BLUE one and you are trying to compare that to a RED Flite! What's with that?

I wouldn't be surprised if the geometry on those sites is wrong. It makes a lot more sense for the factory to build these bikes from the same jig (a sort of table they use to lay out tubing to weld.)

User "Retem" made a great point that the mercier geo sheet is from like 2003, so it could easily be inaccurate. Thats what we really need is someone to sit down with a protractor and settle this once and for all. I really hope the new kilo tt pro has the same geo as the flite does. (mainly 75* h/t angle and 28 mm fork offset)

This is what I think, too. Remember too that Spicer also sells (what appears to be) the exact same frame, so it seems likely that the Kilo/Flite/Spicer frame is nothing other than a standard track frame that these companies order out of a catalog. I don't know the specifics of bike manufacturing at this scale, but if it's anything like the rest of the world, it would be cost-prohibitive for all parties to make minute changes to the frame, especially given that these changes add no value to the end product.

They are the same frames and even forks...the ONLY difference is that the Kilo has the fork threaded and the KHS does not. Why? The dude that runs BD likes the 1" stem look. He's admitted so. The frames are identical otherwise. Spicers are as well.

Also, both frames come with the same wheels, tires, pedals, handlebars, both claim to be from Reynolds 520, and both feature the odd size jump from 53cm to 57cm.

Someone needs to email Mike from Bikes Direct and get him to publish updated specs on the Kilo.

Actually, I'm not entirely certain, but both companies use the same generic hubs. KHS lists Weinmann rims, but Bikes Direct doesn't say what they use. Both at 36H, for what that's worth.
