Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Unless you want rims wider than 19mm.

And 105 hubs are more than good enough.

I run OP's with 105 hubs and they're pretty bulletproof for me but I'm about 160.

Sorry I'm late to the party and you probably already made a decision but I have a pair of OP's laced to Dura Ace rims 32 hole that you can have. They've been hanging around the garage not being used for a year or two. Let me know.

Yes, I saw that. But my recommendation was for wider, deeper rims than Open Pros (like H plus son archetypes) - so that is part of the context. I think 28/32 is fine at that weight with the right rim. 2x front lacing might be better than radial. 2x/3x or all 3x in the rear (with brass nipples).

I could easily find a use for those if he passes.

That sounds like the Mavic Cosmos wheels, which usually (always?) have 28 spokes on the rear and 24 front. I tried some once and found them kinda flexy.

I doubt it. They stopped producing Cosmos at least 8 years ago (Aksiums took their place). But you're right that they were 24/28 and essentially an Open Pro rim with Mavic hub.
