Found a very close match to the fork - this Henry James crown on a Mantis Sherpa. The cutout is slightly different.

Nice classic mtb whatever it is. Reminds me of ritcheys custom fillet brazed mtbs from back in the day. Those still command a pretty penny.

One of a kind Paramountain
When I worked at Mikes Bikes (Schwinn Shop) San Rafael, CA- Marin County in the mid eighties the Schwinn Rep came by with a fillet brazed one off prototype bike identical to this one shown, it was painted a maroon color with I believe a cream colored bullnose.
Everybody in our shop was hoping that this brazed version would eventually be released for production. This particular bike I can almost guarantee was later repainted and had these these modern stickers put on. I worked at the Schwinn shop till 1990 and never once saw or heard about this brazed frame being released for production. There could have been more than one made but the purpose was to get some feedback from the shops that had heavy mountain bike sales. This bike is absolutely a collectors item and if it was mine I would never sell it.
its a piece of history. I have an 87 Paramountain that's lugged and Made in USA. But this brazed version is the real deal. In 87 these decals shown were not designed yet.

Paramountain Notes
Paramountain came in three colors, black, red, yellow, all had Ned Overend decals on them. They were sold as frames and forks only for supposedly one year, 1987, per an email from Richard Schwinn that I once saw only about 1000 were made. All had lugged frames. I have a yellow frame and fork only and a built up red one one which I built from a NOS frame a number of years ago. Rides great!!!!

Proto type
Yes this was a prototype Paramountain that Schwinn sent around to bike shops looking for input and interest prior to the lugged version.
We had a Maroon/Cream colored version brought by the shop by our Factory Rep. ( the Original Mikes Bikes) in San Rafael, CA in 86’.
