Pros have to maintain perfect body weight, so they can go either way. The put on the shorts if they're trying to lose weight after the off season.

Until the last couple months I was with Robert on this. My waist is small and I saw no advantage to bibs even though I have them. Then I did a three hour ride with shorts and noticed how they shift around especially on hard seated climbs. I did a similar ride with bibs and no problem. Now I see why pro's ride with bibs.

Shorts have always been my preference and I doubt that will change. I'm not a fan of anything restrictive or jewelry. Bibs feel restrictive to me. It's all about what you like though

there is no discussion. bibs.
Try this as an analogy: flip-flops vs sneakers to go for a run. Same diff. --Sure there's nothing inherently wrong with running in flip-flops; it's just that sneakers are that much more comfortable for the activity.
Of course some people run barefoot. I suppose that works too.

I've done 400km brevets in shorts and they don't move around unless I'm rustling them myself. I recently got a sweet deal on a pair of sugoi bibs and they were plenty comfortable too but the sweat pooled in my under-gut area a bit whereas the shorts would just drink that up. I would wear either if the price was right but I like the shorts for long rides where I'll be having a poo or two along the way.

I started with shorts. I tried bibs. Meh. No difference in comfort or function as far as I can tell, so I'll stick with my shorts for the foreseeable future. Plus, numerous times I've had to pee on the homeward commute. One of those times I did have bibs on. I tried, but it was too much trouble, so I said, screw it. I can wait 40 minutes until I get home.

I've always used shorts and never really considered bibs. I decided to do some research and have seen a lot of positive feedback on bibs. I like my Louis Garneau, Bellwether, and Pearl Izumi shorts so I was thinking about trying the bib-equivalent of the shorts that I have. Just looking for some other feedback/opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of bibs vs. shorts.

Oooh, you guys are tough. For me bibs are just a solution in search of a problem. I don't dislike anything about standard shorts, and I don't notice any kind of improvement with bibs. So what's the point? I don't need the extra layer of clothing or the potty issues either.
You like 'em, you wear 'em. Just please don't suggest there is no other way. That just isn't true.
