Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had a long ride today, route suggested by Heathpack, now going for a walk from Santa Monica to Venice Beach. Here is the public restroom at Venice.

LA has a bunch of scooters lying around all over the place (apparently you rent them), near USC there was one parked across the sidewalk and I was not yet scooter-aware and I tripped over the ****ing thing. No major injury but I got some road rash on my knee, about the size of a quarter. I have since become much more scooter-alert. People who park them irresponsibly should be fined.

Welp, we survived our first tropical storm with wind involved. The power was on about half the time but is out now. They're telling us we should expect heavy rain through the weekend. We were closer to the eye this time, and as such had stronger winds. At the eye it was steady at 65mph. We probably had 40mph with higher gusts.

My wife requires me to wear a full beard, and I don't complain. Most of it is still red, but it has grey patches on the chin.

Shaved skin scratchy when lights are low, as it were? That's what LSS liked about me with a...beaver.

This kind of confirms my point from earlier. Guy are generally going to be bearded or shaved depending upon the preference of the lady with whom we want to get close to.

Beards are dumb. Surely we've already established that here.

Not shaving saves time every morning. Time that can be spent on more important activities, like drinking coffee.
