Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sounds like it's time for you to learn how to adjust your derailleur.

Moving a cassette from one set of wheels to another, it's not unusual to need to make small adjustments to accommodate for differences in the hubs. Sometimes everything lines up exactly the same. Sometimes not. However, the adjustments are usually pretty easy.

Do they still do the Boulevard RR (late January-ish, I think it was)? Somehow, I always allowed myself to get talked into doing that one, knowing full well it was going to be a day of suffering and a lousy result for a 160+lb sprint monkey.

Wow, a few years ago I thought they were becoming more common, but a quick search and I'm getting a lot of three-hole only shoes.

Some bargain Giros here though

They brought it back this year! But, participation was low and I do not see it on the calendar, bummer. This year it was hot AF and it was total attrition from heat acclimation at the bottom of the course. Top of the climb wasn't so bad, but still mid/high 80's. I won the Master's 35+

I changed out of kit b/c I felt like crap and they took too damn long

San Luis Rey RR is back as well and hopefully here to stay. It also ends with a moderately long climb but its a lower gradient and a generally less harsh course.

EDIT EDIT: Hahahahhaha I'm wearing a BIkeForums Tshirt in this photo!!! Hard to tell but it's there. I should get some royalties for that. I posted this on my IG and I'm sure membership soared afterward

I got a pair of Fizik Terra Powerstrap X4s this time around. Essentially, an SPD compatible sole under a road upper. I like them.

They also have the X5, if you want Boa closure.

One must have "more than" if one does even a modest amount of Christmas decorating. Of course, modest is in the eye of the installer.

I must have been lucky so far in my career. I have swapped cassettes so many times and have never had an issue, so I figured I must have fudged something.

Nice!

I remember San Luis Rey. I had a 6th place finish (Cat 3) the one time I did it.

I have two wheelsets for Mrs. Peel. One has clincher rims and a Uniglide freehub that takes 6-speed cassettes. The other has tubular rims and takes a 6 speed freewheel. When I switch them, I need to remember to adjust the limit screws or I could casually shift the chain into the spokes, if I went from freewheel to freehub, or shift the chain into the rear dropout if I went from freewheel to freehub.

So, a mm or so when changing wheels is nothing.

What was on the menu? What was your favourite?

I know of a family of Arners who were in Delaware whose son is my second cousin (I think), but I never heard that they ran a restaurant.

Did you know any? Delaware seems like the kind of place where everyone knows everyone.

Are you going to the Crazy 80's Car Museum?

Man I loved the Chevy Nova version of the Toyota Corolla back then, something about those quad headlamps.

Proper football fans would I'm sure. Might have to plan it after the teams are decided though, wait for the right matchup with fans from cold climes like Bills vs Packers
