Here's my 1986 GT Timberline. Mostly original, I just had to swap the ugly OEM stem to a slender SR. Pedals are XC-II, Suntour Power thumbshifters instead of the Alphas, Brooks saddle and Velo Orange mudguards.

Just cleaned up this KHS Montana Sport for the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange to sell. Sort of an Early Stump Jumper Clone. At 36 lbs its a real brute, Notice the gussets between the head and down tube. Originally had a 5 speed freewheel, now a 6 speed Hyperglide for smooth shifting.

Rockhopper saved from the dump

It cried out to be rescued from across the transfer station…I know pretty much zip-zero-nada about mountain bikes, I think this is a 97-ish Comp or something like that. I believe it’s fully serviceable and I intend to give it a full overhaul. Those of you in the know, please share your insights and wisdom, thanks!

Nice find! Pretty much straightforward like other bikes other than the RS Indy fork. The elastomers could be toast. A host of nice Ritchey components. That Acera fd leaves little to be desired though. Kinda mismatched with the STXRC. Do start a build thread!

Well I think that the first thing to do would be to remove the rust on the frame inside and out and treat it against rust with rustol, Nitanium was a modified Tange tubing made by Ritchey and a light one. Then because of the age of the fork (I am not sure that there are spare kit available for the elastomers)it would be to buy a new modern suspended fork like the Rock Shox Recon Silver TK Solo Air. Maybe upgrade the whole transmission with XT 750-752 drivetrain from ebay and a pair of mavic 217 or x517 rims laced to xt hubs. I kinda believe the frame is either a 16 or 17 inch size frame.

I had a Rockhopper of a similar vintage that I picked up from $50 from CL. It was a really, really nice riding steel frame, one of the few bikes I regret selling. Enjoy your find!

Barra, barra......

Barracuuuuuda.......

Appears to be a 1994, so NOT a Ross. A2R is just a notch above entry-level, so not truly a grail bike, but a grail brand at least. All the purple anodized bits (pedals included) are fading. Guy took pretty good care of it, all it needed was a FD cable adjustment. Stopped on the way home from picking it up and tried it out on some "easy" (really?) trails. A barrel of fun, but the BB is not particularly high, and with the 175mm cranks it was easy to "ground" the pedals. So I might put some street or rail-trail shoes on her.

For the incurably curious, there's still a fan-site out there, no new content in years but it's all still relevant and helped me nail down the year and other info on it. Barracuda - Totally Driven!

My old A2B winter bike. This was a fun ride, with studded tires, that I could take on roads and trails all winter long. The only place I couldn't go was deep snow.

Here’s my Trek 930, done the “Sheldon Brown” way. Hope you don’t mind the afternoon Summer pictures.

Considering a lot of guys are going either single speed or huge gears in the back with a single sprocket on the crankset, I did the opposite.

24 speeds just on the rear wheel…

With a triple alpine geared crankset? 72.

I had to wait almost three months to get the hub from the UK.

What it looks like on the business side.

MKS UB-Lite Ezy. I really like MKS’s Ezy system. You can switch between this pedal, to a US-S SPD-type pedal, UX-D plastic platform pedal or an AR-2 converted into toe clips. They’re all compatible in MKS’s Ezy system.

Hope you liked the pics!

The truncated panels on the Indy C would indicate it's from 1998.

It’s pretty easy. If I want a higher gear while using the derailleurs, I switch up, or if I need a much lower gear, I switch down to 1st. Otherwise, I leave it in 2nd gear and use the derailleurs alone. The three speed is just an added boost, nothing more. Besides, I always wanted to do it after seeing Sheldon Brown’s “OTB” bike.

Sheldon Brown's Phil Wood framed commuter

I once met a guy who had Sheldon build him a top shelf bike from the bottom up. Just an interesting one to see if you ever wondered what he'd would have done with a bike where money wasn't an object.

I’d like to see a video of you riding it in the lowest combo and the highest combo.

Peugeot Mojave 1990. It was made in Canada for the north american market and imported in Europe when Peugeot used up his stock here. The frame is made in Tange 4130 and the groupset is a complete deore lx.
I found it at one kilometer of my home.
I changed the handelbar, the saddle, pedals, grips, fitted Sachs thumbshifters instead of the revoshifts, and added new tires and a front rack.

Circa 30 YO Specialized S Works Pro. Not my build, bought from a racer who built it frame up and I acquired in the '90s when he moved on to other things.

Admiring the very full river.

I was given this frameset in barely used condition and built up an urban/light gravel bike for the Mrs.
