Here are a couple of local woodwork finds that I finally got around to working on, a '91 DiamondBack Apex and a '91 Nishiki Barbarian.

A few of my latest finds and projects:

My '96 Trek Singletrack 930 18"

My son's '94 Trek Singletrack 930 14.5"

The most recent find is a '93 Trek Antelope 830 18" . My plan is to build this up as a Restomod bike. I found a Singletrack 930 for free that has a rough frame but the drivetrain and other parts are great. The Antelope, that originally came with a Shimano Altus C20 3x7 drivetrain will be built with a Shimano STX drivetrain, converted to 1x8.

That's very nice. Simple, clean, purposeful. Almost looks new, from here. And in the proper size (that is: downright puny). I like it.

Thank you! It's really a nice bike to ride. It's got a few dings & scratches, but overall very well kept. As goofy as it is, I'm trying to track down a dork disc for it just to keep it complete.

The sizing and geometry of those old ones is something else. I'm 5'9 and this 18" fits me....any longer in the top tube and I'd be stretched like Superman. Now I'm on the hunt for a 19.5" 930 frame for my older son so all 3 of us will have a match.

I had a Trek 800 Antelope I bought brand new back in 92 I think and rode that thing until just a few years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't take good care of it and eventually sold it off to a guy who just wanted the frame. Built like a tank and could be driven through a war zone ha ha

First, clarkbre, your Singletrack is killer!

Second, how are you going about finding the dork disc that fits your specific bike? I have been able to dial in my '93 Schwinn Paramount and currently working on my wifey's '93 Mongoose Sycamore but their gross / yellowing dork discs somehow make them both look like they have bad breath. . .

I'm kind of a nerd and tend to over-document projects. The original dork-disk was yellowed and had a large chip and some cracks in it. I took it off but do have a pic of the part # for it. From what I can tell, the disks are measured or spec'd out to the # fo teeth on the largest sprocket and the # of spokes on the wheel. In my case it's listed for 26-30 Tooth, 4 hook, 32 hole/spoke.

Picked up this Proflex from an estate sale. 16" frame. Looked like it sat in the garage most of its life. Cleaned and lubed, took it for a quick ride and then watched the original tire shred. The suspension worked well. Nice not to have polymers. Fatally stuck non drive pedal.

91 Schwinn Paramount Series 70

this bike was buried in the garage for 20+ years - got it out earlier this month and did a quick clean

Specialized Turbo 1.0 tires are currently installed - apparently last time it was ridden was on the roads during late winter or so (?)

If those are folding bead WTB Velociraptor tires, that ride ought to be plush.

I'm more confident when the cranks and spindle are steel, but I've been working stuck pedals loose with a pencil tip propane torch and {Insert your favorite penetrating lube}. It's a little more dicey with aluminum cranks, but I keep the flame on the end of the spindle to try and heat that vs the alloy, and only for 15-20 seconds. It doesn't take much heat to crush the imperfections locking the threads together. Spray the lube on and it'll be wicked into the joint as it cools. It'd be a shame the crankset is paired for life to those pedals.

You were turning the wrench the right way, right?

Update. Shaved the flats, soaked and heated. Locked in the vise and was able to leverage it out.

Clockwise but it's stuck solid. Going to get a pipe and lock it in to the vice. Otherwise I'll be looking for a Sugino 175. Yes, Velo go to captors, lol.

the finished project of the 1998 jamis dragon 11,8 with XT780 T, Mavic Crossmax SSC SL, Cane Creek S1 headset and Ritchey Stem and Ritchey riser bar. The frame was smaller but thanks to my genius and for having purchased the right stem and the right riser bar , I have adapted tit to my size perfectly

Thankful to a friend who recently bought a brand new mountain bike which made this oldest bike in the stable redundant so he asked if I could use it. I've always liked seeing what people do with these beauties so thought I would update it with some newer components and turn it into an urban multipurpose bike for some light gravel, comfy urban cruising bike. Open to any suggestions. Has a 1X crank but need to find a larger geared cassette for more options.

I’m envious. So many possibilities. If I wanted it to be more of an upright bike, I’d probably put a wider bar on it with a little rise and some ergo grips. I’d probably put some gravel tires on it with a tight tread pattern or a ridge in the center for smooth rolling on pavement. I’d probably put a wide-range 10-speed cassette on it with a MicroSHIFT trigger shifter. Since I’d need a rear derailleur, I could either go with the full ADVENT X package or just pick up a derailleur that works well with my chosen cassette range (say, 11-32). Since I need a front caliper, I could pick up a used linear pull and keep the levers if they’re OK. If I’m going to change the levers anyway, I might consider cantilevers. And of course Kool-Stop brake pads.

Swept bar and a rear rack minimum; at this end of the year, fenders too; even clip-ons help a lot. Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks Daywood and Korina, I'm pretty stoked about this ride and thankful. It needs a good scrubbing and has a few scratches but nothing too bad. See if some touch up paint can help. I'm right with you on most of those suggestions - plan on setting up a 1X10 or 11 with micro shifter, new brakes (probably V--brakes as I have no problems with them) new rear derailleur obviously, new pedals and a new seat and post maybe. A few test rides and the handlebar stem feels pretty good but I need to raise the seat a bit so we'll have to see. I don't like the current bar so hoping for something a little more casual- swept back maybe? BMX bar? Not sure.

As for tires, I'm a real sucker for thick gum wall tires that I see in the bike rebuilds site (Schwalbe, Maxxis, Billy Bonkers). I'm sure they're not the best but they add that bling to the bike.

Now, where do I buy all this stuff? ha ha

actually the tires you listed are among the better if not best 26” tires you can get for mixed riding

you can also include panaracer pasela - available in 1.75 gumwall ... not as wide as the other listed tires but still work well on a variety of surfaces

if you want to spend a bit more can look into the Rene Herse 26” gumwall tires

I recently bought a set of Panaracer GravelKing SK+ that I am really liking for their gum wall looks and ride. I get my used parts from a couple of local community bike shops and eBay. New stuff I usually get from universalcycles.com, eBay, and Amazon. Also occasionally modernbike.com and jensonusa.com. I often get tires from biketiresdirect.com. The price of new tires these days might make you cry a little bit.

interesting to me, the seat post has a quick release. The hubs do not.

I think they spec'ed solid axles assuming some rough play. And the QR seat binder allows for the OG proto-dirt-drop known as Hite-Rite.

My long-departed Fisher Montare had solid axles and I managed to bend at least three rears, maybe they were stronger and maybe...? I understood the intent, it's just that you always needed to tote a 15mm wrench. :-)
Also added the Hite-Rite, proto dropper stem. Never mastered the thing underway, had to stop first.

'89 Team Stumpjumper. Been in storage most of it’s life with hardly any use, Did have a set of Wheelsmith wheels built for it with street tires cuz I always ride road bikes. One of those things I thought ‘I had to have’ back then. Deore XT cmpnts
Road it in the rain once, hence, the annodizing on rear rim disappeared…sigh
