Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

no. I'm with ya. At least until the manufacturers start making real bikes with cables and rim brakes again.

Happy new year to one and all. I believe I will start the new year with a zwift ride. God willing this one will be a better year for all. Good luck and God speed.

Can we close the door on 2021 and lock it and throw away the key?

Getting ready to head out for a casual NYD ride. Probably not going into the mountains but some of the group will. It's 40 degrees and the wind is blowing pretty hard here but I'm looking forward to seeing some friends I don't get to see very often.

Mrs. GeneJockey was sleepy last night, so we celebrated New Years in Chicago, then she went to bed. Then The Older Boy and I watched 2 episodes of The Witcher, and at 12:00 (according to the NIST), I wished him Happy New Year.

Then the fireworks scared poor little Dory, so Mrs. GJ came back out to the Living Room and hung out till 1:00, by which time Dory has calmed down and quit trembling*, so we could all go to bed.

*Mrs GJ did one of those Doggie DNA things with Dory, and it turns out she's 28% Chihuahua. So trembling is in her blood!

We went to bed at New Year's Zulu -3 as usual , but I was on call, so I had to leave my phone on and audible and neglected to disable notifications from text messages, so I was awakened repeatedly as midnight approached by the phone chirping and my watch buzzing.

My legs are beat, so I am going to ride with the "D" phantom pacer at about 1.9 W/kg for about an hour and listen to a novel.

I know you've been battling ailments all year, but for me 2021 was incomparably better than 2020 . . . . . . . . other than that January 6 thing, of course.
