Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had a good ride today. Unfortunately afterwards I got the news that my favorite local Italian place with pizza I loved and was craving shut down and is remodeling as a breakfast/lunch place. Lame.

But hey, it was honestly pretty average NY style pizza. There is another joint down the road with similar fair that I will soon try out. Still sad the Italian place is gone. My wife and I actually had our rehearsal dinner in their previous location. Things change.

I’m exaggerating some. Im pretty new to the sport and most of my equipment is all hand me downs. My shoes and pedals came off my best friends gravel bike. The right was is touchy getting clipped in for some reason.

There are Tuesday night crits about about a mile from home, maybe I should do one. I'm pretty old, slow, and fat for critting at the moment, but since I don't have night classes on Tuesdays anymore, I don't have much of an excuse.

Speaking of which, where does one go to find local races. I used to the usa cycling league site to find the crit in Richmond, but there were only 2 other events in Virginia and none were close to me.

I follow one of the two bike shops that host this shindig on Facebook, so I learned of it there. Two Strava friends have raced a few of them, so I see them on that feed too.

Not on book face, but I’ll call the LBS and see if there is anything. Thanks.

I was going to do the trainer after I blew and shoveled out the driveway but I got absorbed and did a few other drives and a lot of the sidewalks in my itty-bitty subdivision. Got 2.1 miles of walking in so I skipped the trainer.

Yes, it’s on Strava.
