They need to allow latitude with the lead runner for umpire or booth review and placing him in a more realistic position. This has been an issue for years. That runner should have been counted as a run scored.

I would agree that the Rays got the short end of the deal, but the rule was applied correctly. There is no provision in the rule for the umpires to judge where to place the runners. The MLB Umpire Manual clarifies that it's 2 bases from the time of the pitch. The only judgement is whether or not the ball was intentionally deflected out of play. If it was intentional, it would be 2 bases from the time of deflection.
