I wholeheartedly agree with that opinion.
This forum, and this thread in particular, and the late Sheldon Brown's website, is all anyone needs to be able to figure out how to sort out ANY problem with a bicycle. Online videos are a bonus, of course.

Here's the Sprite I picked up a few weeks ago ...but don't be alarmed!! This will become Sturmey Archer powered!
I'm really digging this lovely metallic sky blue.
So far I have swapped out the uncomfortable vinyl saddle it came with for this B72, traded in these 27 x 1&1/4" alloy wheels, and given it a longer alloy Sturmey Archer brand stem. And also changed the pedals, the originals were similar block pedals but in a much shorter length.
The tyres are Michelin city protek that I had on these rims already. They're quite tall in profile so I had to do a fair bit of fiddling to get the wheel to sit well in the rear mudguard, including cutting the stays attachment bolt shorter and using a lower profile nut. They were hard work to get on the rim as well, but worth it because they're a cushy ride. The original steel rims have gumwalls in good condition still, but I thought the all black tyres looked better with the black seat tube band.
The plan is to pop in an S5 hub. Later on I'll think about adding a chainguard and a prestube rack (not a fan of the alloy rack). And consider what to do with the cranks - maybe even find some classic herons head cranks. And I need to tilt that B72 back another notch or 2 before my next ride

The Lady of the Lake, built for the Lake Pepin 3 speed Tour:

I stopped at a bike shop in Mt.Horeb, WI and got me an early Fathers Day present.
The guy at Trail Bike Shop bent over backwards to find me another 25.4mm seat post. What with losing the saddle, the brutal headwinds, and the hills on US14, my planned 8 hr ride on the underpowered Ural took 10.5 hrs, but I got here. Time for some Advil and bed.

Added an Acorn bag to my WWII era Schwinn New World three speed.
Added a WWII aviation themed lapel pin to the bag. This is a period aviation-themed bike with wing chainguard, tear drop / wing profile pedals, and the lapel pin added to the bag. The headbage is the old B.F. Goodrich Schwinn type with eagle and wheel on it.

Yes and I'm slightly embarrassed that I didn't get the holes spaced evenly! But it does the job - I hadn't used this saddle for a while and the flaring sides had flared even more while in storage. It's now more comfortable than it used to be. I'm loving the ride of the Sprite, with its longer top tube it fits me better than a Sports.

What a fun event! Great people, got to meet @bikamper, great weather, so many food stops! Someone described it as the kind of ride where you might actually gain weight despite the miles. Highly recommended for those of you thinking about next year.

Don't worry about being a little off when setting the holes for lacing. As long as the lacing holds and keeps the saddle sides in, it should be fine. I have a B66 with one of the holes off a little bit. It rides just fine.
