Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I keep getting Achievements on Strava on segments I've done dozens to hundreds of times, on days when I don't feel like I'm really going that fast. I guess that's better than feeling like you're flying and finding out it's the slowest you've ever ridden that bit.

my worst days are usually my best. And it does suck when you feel super fast and it turns out to be slow.

Since I'm getting faster, I don't feel so bad about buying that new bike. But I'm scoring PRs with all 4 bikes - which I'm not going to tell my wife, who will wonder why I needed yet another bike.

If--and it's a big if--he actually rides on the roads in NW metro ATL, he can probably handle the roads of rural Volunteer Land.

Seems like overall cycling conditions generally deteriorate east of Abilene.

Time to get ready to ride. However, the leaderboard already looks quite formidable.

We had some overlap. I was there from birth in 65 until HS graduation 1983. Still visit sometimes for family. Zero desire to move back.

Velo Vol My family practice doctor is transferring to Knoxville, TN. So, Mouse Man, should I warn her in case you're doctor shopping? Or, maybe she'd like a challenge.

Twice, this morning, I've typed a couple posts that totally disappeared before I finished them. Is there some magic key combo that deletes everything that I'm not aware of or is there a glitch in the matrix this morning?

Replace the beets with raw grated celeriac for my second favorite and replace the beets with raw purslane for my absolute favorite meze. For the celeriac and purslane versions of it, serve with a drizzle of olive oil on top after final mixing.

Celeriac and especially the purslane version goes unbelievably well with fresh grilled fish and raki/ouzo.
Oh boy, we have a chef here.
