ascherer , I have some SunTour thumbshifters if you’re interested. I’ve had them on several upright bar builds, most recently a Raleigh Competition. They’ll work fine up to 7 speeds, I’d guess.

I did a little looking on ebay and this is a pretty good deal if you need a full drivetrain. Suntour friction thumbies can be expensive.

Do it! Nothing better on a flat bar than some thumbies.
I did a little looking on ebay and this is a pretty good deal if you need a full drivetrain. Suntour friction thumbies can be expensive.

@ascherer, it might have been a Monday or Friday bike, but they didn't mess up the seat stays at the seat lug as they often did.
A friend had an International with an eyelet on one rear dropout and none on the other.

That's bad, but I've seen worse. I had worse on my 1975 Gran Sport. Oy Raleighs. They are so imperfect and beautiful at the same time.

lmao i have some wonderful examples. The worst of them, my first International (the frame that was the parts donor for my current international) had an improperly brazed seat tube at the bottom bracket that ended up separating from it.. They also put it in upside down, the butted end was at the top haha.

This thread being 89 pages long makes me realize that I must have been the only member with more than ten posts and no Raleigh Super Course.
But that has been corrected as of yesterday. Now I belong!
Lot of work to be done, though, before it is rideable. Starting with a soak in industrial strength penetrating oil.

The cleanup and rebuild of the 72 I picked up a few weeks back is pretty much done, today was the first shakedown. My son will have to come by and see how he likes the setup. I have an honey B17 for him to try but I suspect he won't go for an unpadded saddle...yet. It rides nicely, as a Super Course should. I'm shellacking a pair of cork grips, and the Champion Narrow may be on the market soon. It's in good shape, just way too narrow for our anatomies.

Now that I have made the requisite 10 posts in order to post pictures, I can share my two Super Courses: The one I acquired first (almost 20 years ago) was this '74 Mk II. It originally had a Nervar Sport crankset and a Huret Jubilee rear derailleur and shift levers. I used the Jubilee until its 40 year old springs became too tired to shift into the small cog and then replaced it with the Huret Challenger which is what was listed in the catalog for 1974.
Last November I came across a '73 Super Course as a box of parts on Craigslist for a bargain price. I was able to make it mine and built it up with the Nervar Sport crankset (for easier maintenance than cottered cranks) that was originally on my '74 and used the Huret Luxe derailleurs and "Manettes a Grand Levier"
that came on my wife's 1970 Super Course Mixte (she insists on indexed shifting).
The '73 is a slightly different bike to ride than the '74 - the head tube has a shallower angle and the wheelbase is an inch longer.
