Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think I wore that for some cold weather workouts back in my college XC days, before good running tights were readily available. The hands get cold.

The bulk of those 27" rims and wheels went out today. One quick move. I saved a Rigida, a Super Champion, a Velox, and one or two others.

My hands warm up pretty quickly. I have a wind shirt that has built in mitts that I wear on particularly cold road/snowshoe runs. I usually shed the mitts part way thru the run.

What was funny about this runner is that he was wearing heavy winter gloves, way heavier than mine.

I dunno 'bout those split levels. Lived in one in Jersey and one in Multnomah Village, OR. The place in Oregon was pretty sweet, but I think I'd rather my life had as few stairs as possible.

Or a pianist.

Yep. After our tandem accident in ‘16, we decided to start looking for a single level house. Good thing, too, considering my wife’s latest 8-10 bone fracture fall.

I used to ride with an oral surgeon who talked about his hands a lot.

Time for a ride. It’s windy out. Good thing the Reynolds wheels are off the Habanero for the off season.

Seem to have lost my PIV (ID) card and had to go through our ridiculous security with my bike this morning. They swabbed it for explosive residue, especially the saddle. Good thing I didn't eat legumes last pm. Fortunately, I have a Mac laptop here that doesn't require the card.

Finally did a night without zwifting. I kind of wanted to because as of tomorrow I'll be out of town and away from bike stuffs. But I was just too tired. Months of little to no riding and then 5 days in a row of on the bike stuff with a real world ride thrown in there.

I doubt I'll have time tonight, but I did secure a decent hybrid bike rental to ride Central Park IRL this Saturday. Of course it will also be below freezing all day. We'll see how much I can handle. I might pack my tights to wear under some pants.

Either way, it will be nice to visit NY and actually have a weekend to myself. Most trips are during the week and I can squeeze in a tiny bit of fun between work and getting to/from JFK.

It's only like 5 steps up to the main level from the entry and the living room, kitchen, full bathroom, and the two bedrooms we will be using are on that level. The laundry, family room, second full bath, and two other bedrooms are on the lower level which is about 5 steps down from the entry. Not too much in my opinion. Less than either of us are dealing with now.
