Did a Zwift race last night. I came in second, or won, depending on whether you ask Zwift Companion or Zwiftpower. (Rider who to 1st didn't have an HRM). I had no problem ramping up power ahead of the sprint, but then I couldn't muster more than 860w for the sprint. I guess I know what I need to work on.

When I was growing up, Dad always waited till Christmas Eve to get a tree. Part of it was that he worked late-ish most nights, so when was he going to get one? Another part was that we always got our trees from one or another local farm, so we weren't dependent on tree sellers, who have usually sold all the good trees by mid-December. I think the other part was that with his old strings of serially-wired Christmas lights you could only really guarantee that they'd all be lit on Christmas if you had only put them up the day before.
The result of this is that I don't start to feel like getting a tree or even decorating the house until the last week before Christmas, whereas everyone else has practically had their lights up since Black Friday. So this morning, Mrs. GeneJockey and I were discussing the lights, which are an old set of outdoor lights we got when The Younger Boy was a baby 29 years ago, with C9 incandescent bulbs. Should we replace them with new LED lights? And that got me to thinking about LED lights. They're WAY more efficient and far less likely to set your tree on fire, but they don't generate the heat required to make Noma Bubble-Lites bubble.
Dad had, originally, 4 strings of these. Then 3, then he had to start splicing out bad sockets. The last year he put them up, sometime in the 80s, there were only 4 working sockets, but he insisted on putting them on the tree for the little kids.

An acid reflux ride. I nearly turned around at 12 km but soldiered on and finished the full 35. I had some relief for the last few, and then ate a banana upon arrival, and was rewarded with a belly ache. Drinking a cup of instant now--coffee usually calms digestive issues, for me.
I don't have acid reflux irl

On todays ride, one of the riders said he hit 10k miles for the year, but about 25% are on Zwift. I told him some people consider these “fake miles” which should not count towards the yearly total, but this is controversial.
He is also a woodworker guy who started making rocker plates for trainers. He has made 3 already and may make more. I am not sure adding a rocker plate adds much to the trainer experience, but I have not tried one so I can’t say for sure.

EDIT: Last year's total was 6146 total, so I should beat that handily. Maybe even tomorrow. IRL miles didn't quite make it to 4000, so I'm ahead there. It'd be nice to get to 5000 miles IRL, but that's 4 x 60 miles or 6 x 40 miles. Or some combination. We'll see, but I'm not gonna kill myself for an imaginary milestone.

Back when those were made to last. Nice pickup. I would love to add to my woodworking tools but am flat out of room in the garage and our basement gets some decent use, so can’t convert that. Not sure I want to invest the money into an air filter system to keep the air safe in the basement anyway…
