I really dig your Moto townie. Do you have any feedback on the saddle? I am trying to decide on one for my current townie build. I do not have any prior experience riding upright so I am open to suggestions.

Thanks. I would say the saddle is very solid for the money (it's Velo Orange's Brooks Swallow lookalike, in case it wasn't apparent). I haven't put very many miles on it and it's still far from punishing. If you really want to go whole hog with the townie build, then a sprung Brooks saddle would probably be even more comfortable still (though I've never tried one myself).

Those grips are silicone, but they look like foam rubber. Are they dense or fluffy? Kinda curious.

I swapped the 45mm tires down to 35mm on this bike. HUGE rolling improvement. The 45s were also just big enough to alter the trail enough to introduce a little wheel flop when turning. All good now.

yes.

they fall somewhere between, they dont squish in your hands like ****ty 80s/90s foam grips and dont disintegrate from sweat or heat, but theyre not rock hard like lockon style rubber (which my hands hated, and why i got these), they clean up super easy

i have the same grips (just thicker) on my fatbike and im pretty sure theyre my favorite grips of ever.

I noticed they are available in a variety of diameters. That is a great thing for a grip company to do.

and the fit which is a tapered combination of 2 different ones, i have the extra chunky on the fat and the chunky here. new cockpit for fatso this weekend and it will get the tapered "fit" version which is a combo of extra chunky/chunky

you can get them in colors and color combos too

also theyre pretty damn cheap and weigh like nothing

nice! you used a cool looking ring. it is a brilliant idea and actually is better than off the shelf options for me, because it needed the light to drop and come forward which it does perfectly

i cant take credit for the idea though, i got it from ocean air cycles' blog

this is my townie in progress. 86 lotus classsique tange 2. drop bars are a pain in my neck so i put these bars on.

IIRC, bars + 2 brake levers + cables + oury grips were around $60 in total. this bike screams down hills it's nuts.

hello all,
just got my hands on a late 60s early 70s Italvega. It's an older Italian bike that has a lot of period detail (lugged steel frame, chrome crown fork w/ chrome tips, cable hangar, campy shifters/derailleurs, etc.). The tube set is a little heavy, so I'd like to turn it into a city/townie bike. I want to change out the drop handlebars, brake lines/cables and brake levers since they are the ugliest things about the bike. A little about the color scheme: light blue/greyish frame, w/ logo in gold & black pin stripe. Saddle is a black Brooks.
For the handlebar, I like most of the Velo Orange offerings, especially the Postino & the Milan bars.


1. classic black grip, gold cable housing, classic chrome levers OR
2. gold bar tape (covering most of the bar), black cable housing, reverse brake levers


Please chime in...

Grips AND tape. Best of both worlds. Multiple hand positions for climbs, headwinds, downhills, and max comfort when fully upright. Definitely standard levers, presumably silver to match your stem/seatpost etc. I'd go blue or grey tape and blue, grey, or black grips.
