Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Better yet, just have your local shop shorten your Al crank arms -- they can just drill out new holes that you can insert the pedals in. That will allow the OP to move his feet even further from the pedals and is much cheaper than the solution above.

You can get even more clearance by spreading your feet out a little. After the shop drills the cranks, have them tap in a couple of these bad boys to increase Q factor.

Well.. with the OP's impressive speed, it seems to me that toe overlap may be more of a concern to him

My fellow roadies, thanks for these 7 glorious pages of profound entertainment. I laughed a lot.
Forgive me of my abuse of fowl language, I guess this bike forum generation is a little more 'seasoned' then I expected. I was in needed of some excitement after reading these dull ****ing threads.

I took an anthropology class, last year in Uni, and we studied that the human psyche is extremely counter-intuitive. Therefore, if I were to have communicated as an average bike-forumesque persona, i wouldn't nearly have recieved as many responses. Thanks for verifying the typical...
I'm not an angry person, never have been, this is the internet and I can say the most ****ing ridiculous things and people will take it to heart.

Yeah, i'm keeping the bike. I came to that conclusion after about 4 responses.

As for my athletic achievements:

100M: 11.89 (2009)(165lbs)
200: 23.50 (2009)(165lbs)
400: 53.19 (2007)(137lbs)
800:2:00 (2007)(137lbs)
1500: 4:20 (2007)(137lbs)
3000: 9:50 (2008)(146lbs)
5K: 16:30 (2007)(137lbs)
10K: 38:00 (2009)(167lbs)
9 miler: 51:00 (2009)(167lbs)

I also played soccer VERY competitively for most of life before I had some major physical setbacks in Soph. and Junior years. There you guys have it! Feel fulfilled now?

O I know some of you guys got a little confidence boost out of that 25km/ hr comment! Here me out, I was casually pedalling with the gf(at the time) across the city, her comp read 25km/ hr average, so its the only the number I can go by. I dont exaggerate my times on the internet. I dont say I could run this, or i could bike that. Dont get your lycra in a bunch, I'll take my new rig out on a quick 60km ride this weekend and I wont hesitate one bit in telling you my average speed.

The attention that this thread got is crazy, I only fired out the 2nd comment to keep things rolling. But this is getting tiresome, so I unfortunately need to bring things back down to reality.

How many of these can you stack up? Weightlifters use a wide stance for maximum power transfer. The same applies for maximum power for a sprint, so getting the pedals a good 3ft apart should help there, probably for hill climbing too. However will the extra flex added help spring the crank around with each pedal stroke?

For future reference, I would encourage you to make the mods' job this easy. Most trolls don't flat out admit to trolling, and our job is usually much more challenging. Thanks for the help.

meh. Nothing so special as to earn a track scholarship. If you were a faster sprinter, they sound a lot like my 1977 times from High School.

It looks like you neglected to mention your exploits in competitive eating. Packing on 30 lbs in only 2 years is quite impressive. Just wait until you're 40...

BTW, there are lots of current and ex runners in the cycling ranks. Being fit helps a lot, but it probably doesn't transfer over as well as you think it will.
