Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 hours would be nice. This was a scheduled 4.5 hours, but there was some road construction that forced me to backtrack, and it went long. At least I was able to dilly-dally at the end. If there weren't stoplights, I would barely stop pedaling.

There are stages to a ride like this.

Man, my legs feel like crap, not sure I can do this.
In the groove finally, and my legs are great.
Just a little over halfway... That's all?

A lot of good chain and rod action in Measuring America https://www.amazon.com/Measuring-America-United-Greatest-History/dp/0452284597/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_img_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VNDR3WXXSC4SD8RYM2MG

I'm about to start reading Chaining Oregon. Looks like a good one, judging by the cover.

My God, that’s simply machine-like! I’ve never approached anything like that on a bicycle, although I might have sustained something similar, but over half that time, on 18-20 mi runs.

Just back from a quick 1 hour ride out to gorgeous Valley Forge park and back. While there I got passed by a serious cyclist who looked like the reincarnation of Laurent Fignon. Complete with dirty blond ponytail and no helmet. I still waved.

I got home and saved my ride but Strava app failed. Some stupid gateway error. Does that mean the whole thing was a dream?

I might enjoy that myself. In my former life, I had to research old deeds and plats to prepare R.O.W purchases and I thoroughly enjoyed searching through the musty old stuff seeing plats back to 1800 (old for Illinois) and land grants to individuals signed by various presidents.

Should have put on your best Phil Ligget voice as the guy rode past, and exclaimed wildly, "Fignon has lost the Tour by EIGHT SECONDS. Can you believe that???"

One of my fondest memories was watching that TT with my father. Despite not being much of a cycling fan, he sat riveted and cheered along side me as LeMond did one of the rides of his life.

I just spent the last 10 minutes trying to get my morning ride to sync. Came across a post on Strava indicating that they're having system issues and that it may be up to 24 hours before rides are logged.

In other news, I'm becoming convinced that I could rob a bank and not be IDed as long as I wear my cycling kit. I was sipping on a post-ride latte in front of the LBS this morning when my cousin (in-law) walked by. "Hey Mike!" I called out. He turned and looked at me for about 3 seconds before I remembered that I was in my incognito kit. "It's Bill."

"OHHH! Hey, how you doing? Blah, blah, blah."

No sync for me either.

I guess I could tell you guys about it. I rode about 105 miles, 10000' climbing, average speed about 28 mph. Recovery ride.

My iPhone XS uses face recognition to open and it recognizes me without my glasses, with my glasses, most hats, etc., but as soon as I put my bike helmet on, it throws in the towel.

Still healing, things are getting a little better every day.
I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday, and may get release to modified duty work.
No bike, no interval training until stress test and echocardiogram, to clear me from possible heart damage from collision.
All this beautiful weather, and I can't ride.

Enzyme levels were elevated in initial blood work at ER, indicating possible contusion.
Testing was inconclusive, so when healed, I get to test again and see where I'm at.

Do what your physician tells you. But I have never heard of heart damage from chest trauma other than commotio cordis, which is a usually fatal heart rhythm from major chest trauma (like a fastball or line drive into the sternum), so I would be shocked, SHOCKED if there is a heart problem from your injury.

Heal up!
