Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That’s about as I suspected, different strokes for different folks. I’ve just always wondered why the wealth of information available on this site doesn’t draw more people. I would guess only 1 or 2% of the entire U.S. bike riding population uses this forum.

Forums are not real popular with the yute these days. At least that's what my kids tell me.

NC ought to be packed to the gills about now. I remember 10-15 years ago most people retiring from my job were headed to NC, probably 50% or more. About 35-40% were headed to Florida of course, with the last 10% headed to Arizona.

If if I decide to leave here Maryland or Delaware are definitely the farthest south I will go. I might even go further north, snow doesn’t skeer me.

Same. Plus my mom used to threaten us with having to be “digging ditches” if the grades didn’t improve.

My ex-partner (from work)picked up and moved with her husband and 2 young kids to Wilmington NC about 3 years ago. She is more of a beach/ocean person so she loves it there (she grew up in Hawaii and SoCal). She said the population diversity there is pretty good too. And of course milder winters.

Mrs datlas and I daydream about moving to Andalucía, Spain some day. It may happen, but with all our families in the NE it’s more likely we will stay here and maybe spend a month each winter in Spain. Post-COVID19, of course.

Mountains have winter, especially Asheville.

You want nice drivers? Kentucky. Georgetown, Kentucky. We do a 4 day men's trip there every year. The nicest people I have ever met, on the road. Beautiful roads, nice folks, they will sit behind you for miles without any problem, then wave to you after they pass you. In 4 years of going there, we had one incident of an enraged motorist, guess where he was from..... Mi.

Wilmington was why he had moved to New Bern 6 years ago. Plan was to move to Wilmington after New Bern. I had very fond memories of Wilmington from when my sister went to college there back in 96. Wilmington today is much bigger and over crowded, we didn’t care for it at all.

LSS wants a house on the water in or near Annapolis when I retire. I like the idea of being near the boat, but I'm not sold on the idea of leaving the city.

Very true on the bike. I felt chilly most of the ride today, but a few times the sun poked through the clouds and I instantly felt warmer. Only lasted a couple minutes before the clouds took control again, but don’t underestimate the power of the sun in winter.

I'M No expert. Just a warning. I have heard that many internal blue tooth laps will not work. Im just saying what I've heard and read on the intertubes, as a heads up. My laptop has blue tooth and it would link initially but as soon as the app opened it would drop.
I bought a B.T Dongle. It worked but I had limited sensor capability. Then I added the ant Dongle. It's been fantastic since that.
